That is kinda hot. My P4 1.8 runs @ 40C full load, and it's OC'd by 300Mhz.

As far as I know there is an integrated overheating prevention system in the p4s witch throttels them down if the temp is too high

If it runs, doesn't crash, and run well, it's FINE.

Suggestion though, add another case fan.

I disagree with that, Reno. PC components last longer if you cool them properly. By some estimates, every 10C you cool a component, its lifespan is doubled

...and exactly what good does it do him that instead of 10 years, his processor could last 20?

Gee, you know, considering people don't know what causes Sudden Northwood Death Syndrome (you do have a theory that has merit, however), I don't see how you would consider it a bad idea to want to cool those processors. I don't think the only criteria to judge whether or not cooling is adequate should be "If it runs, doesn't crash, and run well, it's FINE" -- I could probably run my Athlon at 65C stably, but why would I want to?

Though, when my friend loaded Motherboard monitor 5 on his dell dimension 750mhz P3 with a Geforce 3 packed in, we got freaked out because the case temp was 48C and his CPU was (at idle) 57C......but, he's never had any problems, and hasn't since....I believe, yes, if it's EXCESSIVE heat, then cool it, but if it's not making the side of your case burning hot (like my friends pc) then you're probably okay.

As for running your Athlon at 65C stably...what difference would it make? If it's rated to operate at such temperatures, and you never experience problems...do you REALLY have to worry about heat? It's the old "if a tree fell on a mime in a secluded forest, would anyone care" question
