ATi 8500 - Over 300/300 worth it?

Hey guys..

I got an ATi 8500le 128mb a few weeks ago and I have it stable
at 300/300.. I was wondering if it's worth going over that?

I'm thinking of doing a small mod (changing HSF to Crystal Orb),
but not for the sake of pushing it farther, but to keep it as cool
as I can.. i guess, stability purposes..

But with anyone who can get higher than 300/300 (say, 320/320)
is there a noticable difference?

Hell, is there a difference between 275/275 and 300/300? I'd
do the testing myself right now, except it's 6am and i'm getting
pretty tired.. i'm hoping that someone out there has done these
tests before and remembers some of their conclusions.. =)

thanks..

315/305!

If I clock my mem higher than 300, i get corruption after a few
hours of gaming.. if I clock my core higher than 300, i get
hardlocks after a few hours..

extra cooling would help this situation, right?

most certainly yes, that and a volt mod. really I dont know if its worth the hassle, id save a little, sell the card and get something newer/more powerful. just my opinion.

heehehe..
Your opinion is worth a lot, but i'm a hyper budget person.. =P
It took me a while to get this 8500 (only $145cad), and I had
to suffer about a month of some old PCI card because I had sold
my original 7500 to save up for this..

I'd love to get a newer card.. say, a 9500 (i've seen what those
9k's can do.. which is nothing. imho, of course).. but i'd have to
save up for a while. =P

I have no job, yet. =P

I certainly didnt mean to give the impression I think the 8500 is worth nothing. after all I owned one for 6-8 months and had alot of fun gaming/dual monitor with it. a great card. im also aware that alot of people dont have the finances to chop and change cards every time a new one is released.

the point I was attempting to make was that most of them hit around 300/300 or 295/295 without much work as long as your case has adequate cooling. to start hitting 320+ speeds you really need to start getting into hardcore cooling/volt modding.

personally I dont think the work/performance ratio for the slightly improved benches is worth it. Of course this is not taking into consideration the PC, "do it yourself" factor which is also fun, such as volt modding, adding hard core cooling etc. but be aware if you are on a budget and cant afford a higher end card, that if you do mess something up when attempting either of the above you will more than likely end up with no video card at all.

I always err on the side of caution with modding hardware, especially for those inexperienced users who could possibly end up with something ruined.

the 8500 still performs well at stock or even 290/290ish speeds, still IMO a better card than any GF3.

Geez, that's some crazy overclocking there..
Just having a 9700 would be fast enough for me..

but then, i said that before I got the 8500..

I think i'll just leave it at 300/300.. maybe take off the stock hsf
and reapply it with some as adhesive..
