How to get a Palamino to run 166 ?

So I see that you can modfiy the L12 bridges on a T-Bred to get a default clock speed of 166.... Can anything like this be done to a Palamino? I ask because my mobo is divider locked. By divider locked I mean that I can only clock from 133 mhz up to 165....no higher.

Thanks in advance.

even if u change the deafult fsb to 166 the divider isnt gonna change to 1/5 if there isnt that option on your board. your pci speeds will be dangerously out of spec

Geez......not what I am looking for... If I can get the chip to make the MOBO think that it is a 166 speed chip then I can work with a 166mhz CPU clock rather than the 133 clock i have now. So look at it this way. Right now I am restricted to 133-165 mhz * multiplier.... I would rather have 166 - 199 mhz...See? If I could modify the chip via the L bridges then that would be perfect! But that's what I need. Does anyone know how to do it?

you will need to unlock your chip first anyways as you wont hit that fsb speed without reducing the multiplier first, so i think you should unlock the chip, go down to 11x multiplier, and set your fsb to 165 and see if your 1/5 pci divider kicks in (it should at that speed, if its automatic, and available on the board).

if that works, then you can look into it further

didn't try yet.....but you just don't understand what I am trying to do. The divider won't "kick in" cuz there is no divider... It is already locked. If you run a chip with a 133 clock then the max you can pump up the clock is 165. So by me clocking it at 165 won't do ANYTHING for me.

edit: look at it this way. My mobo senses the default clock of the cpu, (either 100, 133, 166) and then sets the divider to that speed. So if i set it to 165 then the divider is still the same. I can't type in 166 because it is out of the possible ranges for that divider..

yea but i dont think you get what im saying, if you dont have a 1/5 pci divider on your board, then your pci speeds will be running at 1/4 so 166/4 = 41.5MHz which is way over spec (33.3MHz) and is almost guranteed to cause major instability problems with your rig. therefore forcing a 166MHz bus speed will be of absolutely no benefit to you.

DAMNIT you can't read........sorry but YOU! aren't understanding me. Yes my PCI speeds and AGP speeds are high outta spec right now at 150x11..... But I am asking someone, i guess not you, if i can modify the L bridges to make a 166 clock.....my mobo recognizes the processor as a 166 bus then i can use the numbers 166 - 199.......get it? wow... it is so simple what I am saying. and what you are saying has next to no precedence here.

Check this out.

Take a look at this thread....then click on the first link..... http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...&threadid=8676 . I want to do something similar to this on my Palamino. I know that this is for T-Breds. But I am wondering if there is something similar to this that can be done to a Palamino.....THAT'S ALL I WANT TO KNOW!

What motherboard are you speaking of? Evidently not the Abit NF7....

OK, I did some searching, and some chatting with people that own GB motherboards, and this is what one of the replies that I got said:

In order to kick the 1/5 divider in, you must change your fsb to 153, save and reboot, go into the bios again and raise it to whatever you want, and the 1/5 will be working, but you must go 153, 1**, in that order or it won't work.

Good Luck,
John-Paul

This is according to John-Paul over at AMDMB.com

I dont know if it works... but it is worth a shot.

Hope that is some kind of help :P

The other possability is that his 2000+ is not a palomino, but a T-Bred. Now enough of these double posts. Please keep everything in one thread. Not too... There is a such a thing as a BUMP! :P

Dupe posting of what? I don't have that motherboard anymore anyways. I am running the ABIT NF7 for 2 weeks.

this plus this equals dupe thread

so you are claiming that your new NF7 will not run a Palamino chip up over 165 fsb?

both threads were started the same day...

so you have a new mobo now and your question no longer applies?
