So I was poking around VIA Arena forums and I find a person who has a Palamino 2000 running a 166 bus. But he has the same mobo as me and as I know there is no way to change bios settings to get that 166 bus. I am awaiting a response from him to see how he did it.
Here's the link http://forums.viaarena.com/messagevi...15&STARTPAGE=2 He posted half way down the page with a yellow Nuclear icon as his avatar...name is BlueFrogCS I am assuming that he tried this trick but I don't know until he responds to me. Anyone know how he got a 166 bus on a Palamino on a mobo that won't let you change it to 166?Thanks.

It looks like your mobo does support 333fsb processors. http://www.giga-byte.com/products/7vax.htm

Yes, I know that.... no offense... but that is the exact function I am trying to utilize. I need to make my CPU be 166 bus so that the mobo auto detects it as 166 mhz. And the problem is that the manual is misleading...the 7VAX doesn't have that second jumper at SW1 that forces the 166 bus (don't know if it FORCES it, but it enables it)....the deal is that I want my processor to run a 166 bus as default so I actaully can have a 333 FSB.

I cannot just simply raise the cpu clock to 166. The mobo auto senses the default CPU clock. Either 100, 133, 166. In my case 133. Because of the 133 speed I can only raise the CPU clock to 165mhz ... The divider is locked per clock stepping (100, 133, 166). Therefore when I overlock the AGP and PCI get way out of spec. I cannot overclock my CPU to 166 on this board and get another divider. The only way is to get the mobo to think that the CPU has a default bus of 166.

Anyone got a clue? I hate the fact that this motherboard will not allow me to clock above 165.

edit: HAHHAHAHHAA. I go to the forum and guess who is the newest member....wyrethewolf. hehe edits again: NONONONONOOOOOOOOOO!! These are the threads that I orginated my question from. But if you read closely the trick only works on T-Breds.....why? Cuz Palamino has no L12 bridges.

The following is according to John-Paul over at AMDMB.com:
In order to kick the 1/5 divider in, you must change your fsb to 153, save and reboot, go into the bios again and raise it to whatever you want, and the 1/5 will be working, but you must go 153, 1**, in that order or it won't work. Good Luck, John-Paul I hoipe that helps some. |

Freedom is a feature.

Does this - change to 153 and then more works on KT3 the same way?

Well, if someone finds a solution later, best to leave the thread open so they can post the solution for anyone who is searching for the same thing later on...
