Hissing noise when under stress

I've overclocked my computer and it does a hissing noise when running Prime95.It's like a high frequency noise appering only under stress.

To me that sounds like a cap maybe getting ready to go. What power supply do you have?

Enermax 460W

The noise is only there when using a stresstest and overclocking the CPU and RAM. If I lower the CPU voltage towards stocklevel the hissing gets lower.

Thats happening with an old Enermax 350 I have in a 600 MHz K7 system.... and if I take everything out then jump the SYS_ON wire and ground pin then the hissing noise starts but its so high pitch it keeps going up and up then it goes out of my hearing range....

If its a sort of whistling noise that changes under stress then it could be a capacitor. I have to check mine

Another thing I can think of is if you have a fan running on variable speeds.
Some fans don't support some frequencies/speeds too well and emit a high pitched whine.

my rig does this all the time. Sometimes you notice it in windows just by dragging icons round the screen. Its wierd but doesn't seem to cause (or indicate) problems.

what motherboard do you have? When i had a DFI motherboard my coils on the motherboard would 'sing'. It happened on almost all DFI NF2 boards, it never led to any problems as far as i know. Open the case up and see if you can find where it is coming from.
