Between the two..
...I'd probably get the 4200 and OC it. The trick is picking the right brand & model, do you have a specific shop in mind so we could take a look at the two cards? Other than that, I'd REALLY recomend ya consider a 9500 or 9700 over either of them.

Each card is different, if you buy a 4200 you might be able to OC it high or it might not OC that high at all. The differences between a 4200 & a 4400 aren't much, I'd go with the 4200, but if the 4400 is like $15 more, then I'd buy the 4400.

True.....9500Pro kicks ass. You can even mod it to run the ram on a 256bit bus and then it is equivalent to a unoverclocked 9700 (non pro)

from hat i have hear it's only the very first sparkle 9500s that could be moded that way....
I would go with a ti 4200 ... some homemade ramsinks.. and overclock it.... You must be carefull not to get a card with slow memory timeings/ cheap ram or you wont have much fun.. I have had my MSI 4200 Ti ram close to 600 mhz before and it even came with a utillity you just click and it overcocks the ram tests... and then over clocks untill it reches the max you can get out of it but yea I agee if you got the exrta $$ buy the faster card then o/c |

This is the way that I look at it.
I bought a Geforce4 Ti 4200se 128MB DDR (it is a visiontek) for 100 dollars USD. I was lucky that the PCB is the same design as the 4400. It uses the same 3.3ns memory. After testing voltages it turns out that the only difference between this 4200, and the 4400 is the cooler, and the BIOS. After flashing heavily moddified BIOS to the card (that takes it to 4400 stock speeds) and putting a heavier duty heatsink (copper one from Thermaltake) on the card.... I have a card that I can run 1024x768 2x FSAA... and all the eye candy. If you are looking for a card that you can play with, and get massive potential out of it. Try to find a good 4200 that is built on the 4400/4600 PCB. If all else fails look for a 4400. Good luck! oh... BTW... I just pulled a 12,657 points in 3DMark2k1se... But, IE failed to upload the info... and then the puter locked up... Oh well... such as life in the overclocking game :P

I'd get either the 4200 or a Radeon 9500 (fast as a Ti4600).

I think you should buy a G3 ti 500 with 64 mb ddr because it run as faster than Ge4mx* and some as fast as g4 4200 but it's cheaper. For example ASUS ti500

The Geforce 3 is outdated tech at this point - Doom III is being designed with the Geforce 3 being abolutely the minimum requirement...

between the 4200 or the 4400, if the prices are still substantial in your location. get the 4200 and overclock it, most of then easily hit 4400 speeds without a hitch.
if you have a little more money to spend i would certainly go for a 9500 based card. |

Well, I would suggest waiting a bit until the r350 and nv31 are out - once that happens, it will be clear what is the best bang for the buck, since after that, the market is probably going to stabilize with minimal new products coming out until the r400 and the next big nv chip (which I'm quite sure isn't going to be the vaunted nv34, which my guess would put at a mobile part...)...

You won't be saving money with getting a gf3... they cost almost as much if not more than 4200s... again, I recommend waiting for r350, if only because they will push everything a generation down from the best and lower prices..

You already said that, and it just isn't true, given the prices of the GF3's compared to the GF4's (and not the fake GF4's that are MX's...)
EDIT: He posted again... and to C3PO, its $150 for a 4200, and $150 for the GF3 ti500... its $100 for the GFti200, and $100 for a Radeon 9000.... and given that he basically triple posted, I'm going to make a copy of his post incase a mod deletes it...: C3P0: g3 to save money, then get fx Buy cheap G3, no need to buy expensive card such as asus g3 9200 64ddr 250$, you can afford msi 100$ --- ToshiroOC
