Were there any changes comparing to 5.0, except tweaks? 5.0 is not very stable for me.

Re: PAX PCI XFI All OS V5.25 Test thread.
Hello there,
First of all thank you for your existing Second, i have a BIG problem with my x-fi xtreme music. In Windows 7 x64 on intel platform the sound don't want to work at all. It make a noise in ENTERTAINMENT MODE like fffffsssssss (old tv without signal). I tryed every mode possible (except throwing it away) like uninstalling everything and instaling Windows again. WHAT U LEARN ME TO DO? Thanks in advance |

well, the problem is since i changed to xtrememusic. I guess it's because my PSU, it's only 500w. I read on other site, there's someone said he changed his PSU to a higher one, then there's no buzz sound anymore. I didn't change my PSU yet cause I have no money ![]() To fix the buzz sound, I turn the volume of my amp a lil bit lower

His problem is not in nosy sound, his problem that sound card doesn't produce sound at all (except noise).
I think his sound card is physically damaged, but the same result could be achieved if there are multiple sound devices in the system, and creative's sound card is not set as default device in windows Control Panel (and in music players) |

Re: PAX PCI XFI All OS V5.25 Test thread.
Yes is true i don't have any sound. When i select Entertainment mode (only in this mode) then it start to make a default (cannot stop that sound even if i press MUTE button).
I deactivated from bios my onboard sound and uninstall drivers of it. But my card is perfect in Windows XP (perfect, incredible). |

Hello there Mr. Robert McClelland. My name's Paulo and I'm from Brazil.
It's been more than 2 years I've been downloading your drivers rather than Creative's own in the hope I get the best possible audio for my XtremeMusic card. Now, I saw this thread created by you and it got me wondering: what, at last, are the tweaks this guy often talks about? You know, quality is relative to one person's likes. From a certein point of view one could be talking about bit-perfectness. From another point of view, it could be all about improving the original sound adding to it more realism, mightiness, definition, etc.. I don't care much about bit-perfectness but I care about one's modifications to the original sound because I don't want it to be distorted in anyway. I'd love to help you testing this release, but, first, can you better explain what sort of optimizations you've always talked about? Is it all about EQ's? There's nothing on the Internet that explains in details your tweaks. It's just a blinded trust because it's really impossible to compare quality from different releases due to the time it talkes to update drivers. Besides, fair and real comparison requires top quality equipment which most of us don't have. One's opinion is quite subjective at all and does not represent real world true results. I'll appretiate a reply from you as soon as you can. Also, if it isn't too much to ask further, can you tell me if Creative's X-Fi cards are really capable of playing pure 192KHz audio in stereo mode? I'm asking this because I've observed (and tested digitally) it pretty much resamples everything to 48KHz, except in Audio Creation mode where you can tell it what sample rate to work at, up to 96KHz. Thank you very much in advance. Peace!!! |

Low-End, and Mid-end creative cards have very poor analog output for Hight Quality Audio. I recommend you ether buy high-end card or hard-mod your existing card if you listen to 192KHz music very often (or want to get max Quality). And yes, 192 KHz without resampling is available only in Creation Mode.

Now, it's said in those articles that the X-Fi processor can only run at 48KHz when set to Enterteinment mode or Game mode. If the X-Fi processor is fed with 44.1KHz, it'll upsample the sound to its 48KHz standard. If the processor is fed with 48KHz, obviously, it does nothing. Now, if it's fed with anything higher then 48KHz, let's say, for example, 96KHz, it'll literarilly divide the samples by two, or in case of 192KHz, by four, process each 48KHz piece individually, and then join the resulting processed pieces back into one 96 or 192KHz stream and finally send it to the DAC's. Do you get me? On Audio Creation mode you can tell the X-Fi processor at which sampling rate you want it to run, but there is no 192KHz option there in that mode, although 44.1 to 96KHz options are there. So, be it on Enterteinment or Game mode, you feed the sound card with 96KHz, it'll divide the 96KHz sampled sound by two, individually process the two 48KHz samples and, then, rejoin the two 48KHz pieces into one 96KHz and thus sending the resulting stream to the DAC's which are capable on ALL X-Fi cards of outputing up to 96KHz multi-channel and 192KHz stereo. The same above applies to 192KHz, but in that case the X-Fi processor has to deal with four 48KHz pieces individually (192 / 4 = 48). I guess the stereo limitation for 192KHz might be due to the lack of extra power from the 400MHz X-Fi chip. I have carefully digitally monitored sound output from the X-Fi processor and I can confirm there is resampling for everything but 48KHz. I got something superior to 48KHz when playing 96KHz but it wasn't even near that quality. That's why I made my previous question. Shouldn't I be getting results anywhere near 96KHz or 192KHz? Could it be distortions introduced by Mr. Robert's misterious "tweaks"? It might be interesting to note I'm not measuring in anolog at any moment, all my analysis is done 100% digitally, which means no losses because of poorer DAC's from my "low - mid-end card". Now, it's curious to note that Windows 7 has done a better resampling than the sound card in hardware, do you believe that? Yes, I can confirm. If you look at the PCM wave graphs from the Windows resampling algorithm and compare it to X-Fi hardware resampling, you'll notice Windows' is more loyal to the original PCM waves after resampling. I did the tests with different content to confirm that (I can explain my methodology in case there's anyone interested). I remember reading an article that said horrible things about Windows Vista's resampling algorithm. Is it that much improved on Windows 7 over Vista that it even exceeds the renowned X-Fi's resampling capabilities? Or are there (I wonder again) distortions being introduced by Mr. Robert's "tweaks"? This is serious guys, this is serious! Last edited by medeirosdez; Oct 21, 2011 at 10:42 AM. |

Did you use ASIO output or did you change sample rate in control panel to match you source during your tests? just to be sure that sound was not destroyed before you card got it

Now, of course that, if what I wanted to test was Windows own resampling capabilities, I had to set Windows to desired sampling rate, which in terms of sound card's defaults is 48KHz. Don't worry, rest assured there were no mistakes on measuring.

As far as I know the WASAPI exclusive mode outputs unaltered stream directly to the sound card, bypassing any Windows processing. Similar to KS.
