Does the 5.1 from the optical (spdif) in work for you? I'm only able to get stereo sound from there...

Re: Vista and XP Driver Support for Audigy, Xtreme Audio, and Xfi cards

My apologize since I'm sure the answer to my question already exists here, but I've looked and looked and just cant seem to find it!

Now that I've admitted I'm a moron, I hope you'll forgive me.

I just recieved a Dell 420, w/ a Soundcard that the details are not listed anywhere, it's only listed as a Creative SB X-Fi, and after searching about, based on searching google, pictures other forums and such, it seems like its OEM Model #SB0770 (B) (has optical in/out as well as the usual suspects)
However Dell seems to buy things in OEM fashion and disable a lot of stuff for pricing.
Heck, they dont even show that they have this card for sale as a option on their site, so theres always that bit of joy and ease of information gathering

My issue is that I have always used the optical out on other computers, and I have a good home theater amp that I use for decoding etc.
However I cannot get anything but stereo from the PC sound. Even when the source is DD or any 5.1 sound.

For movies I'd use VLC with FFshow and on other, slower computers it was close to flawless, this gives me zero sound, unless I set everything for stereo.

I was thinking I just need the ability to use the card to pass through the sound?

Any help in drivers to use, and best way to set this up would be great.
The only options for 5.1 sound I have on my reciever is either optical or the one copper wire, there isnt a multi-cable option, and to be honest, I would like to use the optical because I already have that wire laid, and its handy-dandy.

What I want to be able to do is to be able to use the optical out for everything from 5.1 to stereo sound, in games, moveis etc etc.
And the front panel for microphone and headphone usage.

My list of Drivers etc that are installed from Belarc are (sorry if it's more info than needed, I just want to be sure that I'm giving you all the info you need!)

Thanks so much for any help or tips!

Re: Vista and XP Driver Support for Audigy, Xtreme Audio, and Xfi cards

Awesome!

Thanks for the info!
I admit, I haven't used a sound card since... well in forever since onboard sound has been hunky dory as long as it had optical out.

And the fact that this is a "mystery card" that even Dell doesn't know exists doesn't help matters much. Although they were happy to charge for it, but that's another story!

I'll look through your read me's etc for setup help, because this doesnt even have a real setup guide/manual that really pertains to it.
this is why i like to build my own systems, alas, this was also such a stupid deal, its worth the headache.

thanks again, it's crazy nutcases like you that make their own drivers that make the world more awesome!

8^)

Ok. I'm not sure if you attempted changing the SPDIF input settings under the SPDIF I/O tab, but it's still grayed out.

By the way, I think it`s a good idea from the guy who did first reply on 6.20 topic at you-pax forum to call your "Changes" -> "Features", because they are
And with "Changes" you could explain what changed to the last version.
For example:
"Changes: - based on new SBXF_PCDRVBETA_US_2_18_0006.10"
if version before based on an older one.

Robert,

If I want 5.1 sound from my ps3/360 would you recommend that I return the x-fi titanium pcie and get an older pci card - or should I just hold on to it and have faith that you will eventually figure this thing out?

Everything thus far sounds amazing and so crystal clear - especially the bass but I would love to enjoy the sound from the game consoles to appreciate them that much more...
