X-Fi disappears after restart

Hello, I'm having trouble with my 2 years old X-Fi XtremeGamer (PCI). When I reinstall drivers (but no restart), everything works like charm. After single restart some applications (like foobar2000) continue to work (e.g. plays sound) but other (like Media Player Classic + everything else) doesn't work. When I open Control Panel - Sound there's message: No device found. I'm using suspend function (sleep) so I haven't found it out immediately. Today I suspended my computer and it didn't (some failrue) so I shut it down then started it up later. Everything works normally except no sound.

I'm using drivers from YouP PAX suite 2007 and XP SP2.

Can anybody help me, please?

Re: X-Fi disappears after restart

Well, I uninstalled old drivers, restarted, installed this new Spring PAX Suite, restarted and guess what... it DIDN'T WORK. Always the same, X-Fi device can't be found! And as always Console Launcher doesn't get installed even when I select it in custom installation. I always had to install it manually. I really don't know what to do now.

Edit: old drivers didn't even uninstalled properly. Lots of files left over in Creative folder in Program Files.

Re: X-Fi disappears after restart

Did you used driver cleaner? Don't installed drivers from the suite then used software part then installed PAX PCI XFI 6.60 set Some drivers for XFI cards won't work with suite that why you need the software set. Please reinstalled all software and drivers from Pax PCI XFI 6.60 set

Re: X-Fi disappears after restart

Removed driver through Device Manager, uninstalled software (Add/Remove), restarted to safe mode, cleaned system through driver cleaner (with Creative profile), restarted, installed PAX X-FI OS Driver V6.60, restarted (sound worked ), installed rest of applications (Console Launcher, Volume Panel, THX Console, Audio Console was from X-Fi OS Driver package) from Pax X-Fi Software Suite OS Spring 2009. Thanks for help, it works now!

Re: X-Fi disappears after restart

Well, I always hated Creative for their not doing anything useful for opensourcing driver or releasing datasheets to ALSA/OSS/etc. and their bad software/drivers for Windows, but I'm starting to hate you (no offence), because your proposed solution: use driver cleaner doesn't work anymore. Audio device (X-Fi) still disappears after restart, no matter what I do. I hope there's a solution. Thanks!

Re: X-Fi disappears after restart

I don't get it. I really hate those (any X-Fi) drivers. I turned off computer like 8 hours ago and turned it on now and it (surprisingly) works. This is exactly what I did last time (after found out that there's no X-Fi device):
  • uninstall X-Fi device from Device Manager (no restart)
  • uninstall Sound Blaster X-Fi software from Add/Remove Programs (no restart)
  • install PAX PCI XFI OS 6.60 (installed Audio Console, driver, maybe something else)
  • restart
  • install following applications from Pax X-Fi Software Suite OS Spring 2009:
    • Console Launcher
    • Volume Panel
    • THX Console
    • On Screen Display
    • (automatically installed) Auto Tag Cleaner
  • no restart followed, I just used computer as usual
I guess that may not be correct steps to reinstall driver and as you can see I didn't used Driver Cleaner this time, although I don't think that it matter.

I'm not going to experiment, why it hasn't broken down this time, as it is not my task and especially: As long as something works, I don't touch it.

Re: X-Fi disappears after restart

I only wanted to say that I'm really wondering, what the f*** (no offence) are you doing in those drivers? It's pathetic to write to changelog: Perfect Bass sound or Added nice crisp bass to it or * Fine tune the drivers more. Damn you sound totally like Creative with their so-called Crystalizer, CMSS-3D or Feel The Force, when you have lame drivers and software.

Anyway thanks for your drivers and software suite, I really don't know what I've installed (unlike Creative drivers)
