Re: PAX PCI Audigy All-OS-Driver V1.00

Hey bro, 1st of all congratz on a new release.

I have been a big fan of your audigy drivers...i'll keep following every of your realease...

I dont know if people are going to agree with me on this, but i find the v.1.00 drivers sound quite "Loud" and lack dynamics, the loudness is almost same througout a song with loud and soft parts.

Also the "surround feeling/soundstage" in instrumental songs seems to have decreased. Previously i could hear if a piano or any instrument is coming from the left or right channel, in this release it's harder to hear. Even if it can be heard, it sounds quite mono and dead. No excitement.

However, the bass is much stronger, tight and thick.

Treble sound abit harsh and dead, previously it sound quite sweet and "airy".
Now it sounds harsh as if it was EQ at 7khz region

I still think your previous spring release gives the best sound...it was very smooth.

This driver version makes my cheap and small 2.0 speakers sound loud and full.
However, with my high end edifier s530 speaker and senheisser headphones, the bass is just too much and there is not enough clarity and soundstage/stereo imaging.

Perhaps you could make a driver mod for high end sound systems...
these high end systems normally have enough bass, so its better if you tweak on the clarity and stereo imaging part. Bass is not everything to everyone. Quantity of bass does not need to be high in good speakers, but QUALITY has to be ; )

I hope you can address these issues in your following release...

May you have the best with you always,

cheers.

Andrew from Malaysia.

EDIT: i know dealing with many drivers and trying to tweak the sound is hard... so here's what to listen to for high end sound (if you seem that you cant find what to tweak for high end sound)

Detail

The human voice is always a good test for this category. How convincing does the male or female singer sound? Can you hear breath, texture, and realism? Make sure the voice is clear of chestiness, nasality, and sibilance. Musical instruments should sound very defined and embody as many elements of a live or studio performance as possible. Remember, that bright sounding speakers may sound exciting at first, but can become quite tiring after a few hours of listening.

Bass Punch & Slam

These sonic characteristics tend to apply only to speaker systems that have either satellites and subwoofers, or that are of a larger size, for example, medium sized bookshelf and floor standing models. Pinpointing punch and slam refers to the rhythmic force which you feel as much as you hear, for example, in a kick drum or tympani.

Overall Timing

This term describes the accuracy of the musical notes embedded within the recording. A good loudspeaker system should be able to communicate the rhythms within the music scores with high precision and tautness. As a result, you may well find that unknowingly, your hand or foot may have been tapping to time of the beat.

Imaging

A rather complex issue regarding phase and time, a fine system will convey the placement of voices, instruments, and sound effects, in front of and between your speakers. In the case of higher end loudspeaker systems with wide dispersion, you will find that the stereo image will extend past the far left and far right of the enclosures. If you close your eyes, you should be able to sense the atmosphere of the recording, and feel you are actually there at the performance.

Ambience

The ambience, together with imaging, will provide you with acoustical clues as to where the recording was made. For example, if you hear a rather spacious echo from a recording of say a sizeable Orchestra, the chances are it was performed in a large Symphony Hall. The best loudspeaker systems are also capable of reproducing the “air” around the voices and instruments within a recording. This attribute further enhances the realism of detail and spaciousness.

Re: PAX PCI Audigy All-OS-Driver V1.00

Hey bro, hows the work on the new drivers going?

And yes, after switching with version 6.60 and 6.55, compare to this v.1.00

v1.00 is very loud and harsh...if i not mistaken there is some amount of distortion...

Currently using 6.60, I tried in install back spring edition, but somehow at windows volume controll, there is no "Master Volume" control...

there is only 3...wave...mic...and PC...i tried to go to properties to enable others, but its not there... oh well, i guess i cant use the spring edition anymore

but 6.60 is quite okay..

Re: PAX PCI Audigy All-OS-Driver V1.00

Hello Robert,

First, congratulations on your work. it's welcome to meet people like you.

I try to install this driver with:

Windows 7 x64 and Windows XP x64
Audigy SB0092

i do:
- uninstall drivers SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_18_0011.
- run the installer (setup.exe) of PAX PCI Audigy All-OS-Driver V1.00
- I select a language
--> the installer show the error: DRIVER VERSION IS NOT FOUND (and stops)

Note: The creative's drivers SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_18_0011 works fine in my x64 systems but I can 't adjust the cutoff frequency of the bass (subrround mixer) as in windows xp 32, your driver... can do it?

thank you for all (and sorry my english)

Np No You need Uninstalled from Device Manager then run driver cleaner then reboot then run the setup. You might need run comp or I might not have your ID in. Can you give me your Device ID? thanks. You need installed drivers first then software second On audigy cards.

Hi!,

Problem solved.

i've followed your steps but the instalation program show the same error message: " DRIVER VERSION IS NOT FOUND" (and stops). Then, I modified the path where the driver was situated:

J:\drivers\SB audigy\PAX PCI Audigy All-OS-Driver V1.00_wXP_Vista_w7_32&64bits\*

for:

C:\driver\*

and the installer worked fine.

My devide ID is:

PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0004&SUBSYS_00531102&REV_03\4&2BE 4B97F&0&4030

In Windows XP x64, I can use the software "Surround Mixer", of creative, for redirect the bass. Great!.

In Windows 7 x64, this software don't works. The 5.1 configuration is good, but generic audio software doesn't send the sound lower 200 Hz to subwoofer. Can i do anything to solve this?

thanks.

Re: PAX PCI Audigy All-OS-Driver V1.00

Hello, thanks for all your great work =)

So my issue is with stereo mirroring or CMSS modes

I have an Audigy 2 ZS running on Windows 7 64bit

Biggest problem: stereo surround doesn't seem to be working... I've run a test to make sure the rear speakers work with a 5 channel test and they do.

Possibly related: In the Creative Audio Console in the CMSS 3D tab, there's only two options for CMSS modes: Off and CMSS. Stereo surround and CMSS2 are missing...

Hopefully I'm not missing something obvious...

Thanks

Re: PAX PCI Audigy All-OS-Driver V1.00

Ok, I have been looking through almost every Audigy related post to find a driver set that will let me use the Audigy 4 applications on my Audigy 1 SB0160, or at least let me get a program similar to the Creative Sound recorder in Win XP?

If I install this driver and then use the old modded A4.ISO, by use of the software on the CD below.
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/audio-ge...available.html

Maybe this is the version I need? Does it mod A1 to A4
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/youp-pax...on-2009-a.html

Again, I'm using XP, so I don't care about how old the driver is, as long as I can get those features, and everything works stable.

Thanks tons for your work and help.

If modding is no longer allowed to be discussed, then I didn't evn mention it

Currently using Daniel_k Audigy support package from here.

Re: PAX PCI Audigy All-OS-Driver V1.00

No hurry man. I was just trying to get pointed in the right direction.

So the pack you will release in the next couple days will have all the mods needed for an Audigy 1 and the all the compatible A4 applications?

If you don't know which apps are compatible since you don't have an Audigy 1, I'd be glad to test which ones work for you.

I'm just excited I could get help with this card at all. The A4 apps are just a bonus.
I'm really only concerned about getting the creative recorder app to work, as it makes recording stuff much easier with the "what you hear" option.

I'm hoping to find an Audigy front panel, or live drive for further testing of your modded drivers.

Thank you Sir!

Sorry for the delay in reply. I've been kinda busy here.

Anyway, I did a complete uninstall and driver sweep and installed a Creative driver package modified for Win7 (found on the Creative forums) and the CMSS2 and Stereo Surround options were listed there.

I then did the same process of uninstalling all apps, uninstalling the drivers, and running Driver Sweeper, and reinstalling this PAX package. Same result - no CMSS2 nor Stereo Surround option.

The CMSS(1) option that is available does not seem to be mirroring stereo audio correctly either - no output from the rear speakers.

Maybe I should add that when I open up properties for the sound card I get a windows error message:
"Windows has detected that audio enhancements for [the device] are causing problems." and asks me if I want to disable them.

Wondering if it's just me... again, this is on Win7 64bit with an Audigy 2 ZS

Hi there

I use Windows 7 x64 and Audigy 4, but got problems with my mic. I hear myself when i talk, but the mic dont record anything. Audirecorder dont work, Skype dont work, nothing.

Re: PAX PCI Audigy All-OS-Driver V1.00

Interesting problem I'm having with this driver pack, everything will work fine for a little while, could be a few minutes to a few hours then all of a sudden the sound completely drops out.

If I check the Playback Devices I notice the sound level meter is about 2/3 up and not moving.

Sometimes Windows 7 will give an error message about the device not responding and to disable it.

If I reboot the machine then the sound comes back until this happens again.

I have not tried the recent release from Creative Labs yet for my card but I may just to see what happens.

Using Windows 7, RC1, Build 7100, x64-bit edition
8GB of RAM
Audigy 2 Platinum

This is my file server machine, I have a gaming rig with an X-Fi Platinum installed and have not come across this issue yet.

Glad to hear that, in the meantime I have enabled the onboard ALC662 codec just so I don't have any drop outs, so far so good...

I also found another trick besides rebooting, going into the Playback Devices and disabling the Audigy, then re-enable it once more, works great until it stops again.

I've also noticed that it can happen more often with Media Files like Gametrailers and such, Flash Media files seems to happen quite quickly too....

Take all the time you need Robert, selling a house and closing escrow can take awhile
