next world power = China?..

On my His. 12(American Civilization 2) class, my professor mentioned about how Asia(mainly China) could be the next world power. He talked about China's rapid growth and development and how the US has billions of debts to the country. What do you guys think about this matter?..

China and India really, in terms of economic growth, but they are both world powers, and their economys do influence world trade so to speak.

Could? It would have been better to say "will more than likely". We (North America, EU and Australasia) couldnt even match the population of either of China or India.
In the end we still have the lifestyle, they will end up unhappy living in poorly built shoe-box apartments like the Japanese listening to tacky pop music. Western money without the western lifestyle.

well if your referring to the popular Japanese music they have their own genre..its called J-pop, and I like Tricertops, old band but pretty good.

India is training and sending the U.S. software engineers, just ask IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Unisys, etc....

And China, we are making nice with a really huge economic monster that will eventually rule the world....

Look out free world..

yes they are, from oil contracts wtih IRAQ to a huge trade gap that is broadening. The average chinese person only earns a quarter of the income that anyone else in the world does, but they are manufacturing considerably more. And the wealthy and upper middle class chinese are buying and driving automobiles so they need more goods and services. Currently the U.S. and other nations have invested heavily in China and they have formed partnerships with most western nations.
And weapons? Who do you think is involved with IRAN and N. Korea quietly watching to see who will win, it is a battle of wills that China won long ago.
China is an insular nation, but they are fast becoming more powerful as the pollution in the world is increasing, soon they will outstrip the U.S. in terms of almost everything that effects world economy, planetary health and geo-politics.

It is not that we are in debt per se, but look at the value of the Luang compared to the dollar, what if they raised the value of their curerncy?

lots of manufacturing are made in China even when a product is designed here in the US because of cheap labor. China exports lots of goods here that i bet you can always find something in your home that is made from china from your clothings and appliances...etc.

your joking yourself if you don't consider china a world power.... in both military, eco, people.... generally everything..

frankly if they could move what they have quickly and efficently.. they could easily roll into any place and "aquire it"

But the backlash on their own country would not be sooo good... I don't realyl consider them a world power because they don't influence the world on anything but economic level. They are to be reckoned with but they can be more powerful than what they are!

You have much to learn grasshopper..
I am not patronizing you really I am not...
Please turn into any history book whether it was written about anchient China or contemporary China and you will see a much larger world with China prominently placed along with all the "world" powers.
in fact the worse thing you can do is under estimate China, the Japanese did, as they did us too.

a state powerful enough to influence events throughout the world
wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

In the context of international relations and diplomacy, power (sometimes clarified as international power), national power, or state power) is the ability of one state to influence or control other states. States with this ability are called powers, middle powers, regional powers, great powers (sometimes capitalized), superpowers, and hyperpowers.

My point is that since the overthrow of Chang Kai Chek and the Nationalist government, China has arguably been a world power, since political changes and the build up of power of the Communist government, they have successfully changed world policy, opinion and even fought and won and lost wars with world powers.

Estimated per capita GDP for 2005:

China: US$6,300
United States: US$42,000

Military balance:

China: 2.270 Million
USA: 1.414 Million (All volunteer)

Military Budget:

China: $81.48 Billion
USA: $518.1 Billion

Thats just economically and militarily. In either case, China is not yet a World/Super power. They will get there economically at some point, but as of now they are still too relatively backwards and under developed, especially in the western portions of the country.

Some money dictates overall power? Not other numbers?

IMO, the US waists a fair bit of it's own money.... just one experimentation alone....

Why don't we compare nation debt and add that to the equation then
