dunno about bluelight but here its 50 - 50 ... did America not use its veto to stop sanctions being imposed on Isreal and was the lone member in the UN opposing sanctions and stated they would oppose sanctions being imposed on Isreal ... with that sort of stance who is the real anti social/unreasonable un member ?? and how do they expect Isreal to respond positively without any real pressure being imposed on them

Im still around Jeff.Yeah i saw about the French...confusing but at the same time not.....My guess is that they will be there with or without chemicals being used.
This is a way of jumpingh back into the game witout loosing the face to much when it comes to those that oppose to any attack whatsoever ... The train is moving and they have little choice but to jump on it.They have made their point.....Usa doesnt push us around......Which is what all this has been about all the time...not only for them. This is how this is interpreted even in our conservative media here. The conservative media here has been behing Bush all along...but...the last two months they have started criticising the way....they have "built" the coalition. Had this been run another way a bit smoother they French already been there .....The Germans...no..but the French...yes.. They all have their interests....France Russia China...and when Usa goes out and says ..We will run it for you...there is no doubt it will hit back. It would have been smarter to back down...a week earlier though.... Bluelight |

American media is falling into line
I think there are more american media in QATAR than american troops or citizens...
The american press for the most part is bringing to the world interviews with american troops who have families and providing limited insights into the future plans for the invasion.. But I know for that the press will be controlled in such away as to amplify the justificaiton for war... Just a week ago, correspondents that openly criticized the efforts of the american military are now finding friends among the troops...just like twelve years ago.. I think Saddam will use chemical weapons and this war is going escalate to a much higher level than the Gulf War. Here in the United states, the Academy Awards will continue as usual.. Frankly I could care less about whether an actor is recognized for their well paid achievements in entertainment... Now even actors are changing their tune... I fought in the last Gulf War, and I am not going to be a hypocrate about this... If american media insists on changing their direction for ratings then their efforts to inform are pointless.. I know that when I lived overseas, at least the German news service was consistent, unbiased and informative.... Most of the fellow sailors and marines that I served with are in agreement..we support the ouster of Saddam...just wish there could have been an easier way to go about it.. It's no wonder the world thinks we americans are hypocrates... |

Well they learned how......not....to handle media in Vietnam......so now instead of letting media in and do what they wish.....they control what media actually sees...and knows.
It is part of the TV show "The war"...perfect for the politicians and perfect for the media corporations. I think the Vienam reporting...was more honest...no matter if you were pro or against. Bluelight |

The question is ...does that justify that every word said about the war today is directed in a studio in Kuwait run by the US army?
It is ..and actually was and has always been so that a number of journalists never had any doubt in sharing the dangers of being..."at war".... I hardly think he reason that journalists today are "embedded" is to protect journalists. The reason is to direct the flow of news in a certian direction. Less images of civilian casualties etc etc...WE saw that already the last Gulf war. Bluelight |

Some of the journalists (Americans) i have read about from the Vietnam war were actually just like soldiers. They fought the war on the terms of the soldiers and nobody elses terms.
So even if they were on "one" side....thet descibed the "truth" of the soldier....That truth doesnt always fit the offficial version....even if it does not question the "mission" as such. It is true many of them died and vanished.I remember particularily one American whose name i have forgot that died just days before the Americans left Saigon..after having spent ears with the soldiers. The best journalism and the best photos...leaves for the beholder to decide himself. This is what these people usually did.

I believe
that this television culture here in the United States will believe just about anything the media gives them, we put more credibility in the words of a television journalist than in our clergyman, I know that sounds very pessimistic, but it seems to be so..

You'd better keep your children away from those kind of clergymen.
![]() But seriously, it is sad that only a few of us actually taste what we're offered before swallowing. And I'm not talking about americans in particular.

It's even worse that the few that do can not even come to the same conclusion..just getting frustrated with each other thinking "why can't you open your eyes and understand"..deep down inside we all swallow bits without tasting...that's what causes our great history of killing each other.

But wouldn't life be boring as hell if the few that think for themselves agreed on everything and no-one ever had any original ideas? We just need to learn to accept that our conclusions aren't necessarily the most accurate ones and to stop trying to kill anyone that doesn't think we're right. You might be wrong even if pretty much the rest of the world agreed with you. If this wasn't true then why would we need people like newton or darwin (apologies to all creationists)? Hell we'd probably be still living in the trees if nobody had come to the revolutionary conclusion that caves might be a nice place to live in.
Didn't get the least bit off topic did I? Well ok I did but I just can't resist throwing around stupid semi-philosophic comments early in the morning
