I was curious if anyone thinks someone else would be doing a better job

calling the shots in the White House on the Iraq situation

and everything else the US needs to deal with.

Kennedy just knew how and when to play his cards, it seemed that if he made a threat of force people knew he would use it. Mr. Reagan seemed to know how to pull people together but at the same time he also knew when and how to use force if needed. Somehow I think both would have waited a bit longer for a political solution, but I believe both would have ended up using somekind of military action.

Frodo, I am going to have to agree with you on this one. I can't see Gore making a good president. He doesnt know people, and he doesnt know when to open his mouth, and when to keep it shut.

This not a political debate. I do not need to give you reasons why I picked him, It's my opinion.

I went with Bill Clinton. He did a good job and i would pick him over any of the other candidates. Although if i could pick others i would have to say that Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter were probably the two most SANE presidents of the 20th century.

Well I can't vote as I'm not American. But to be honset I don't see any credible oppsition on the left right now in America. The left are good at producing charismatic clever politicians like the Kenedys, or Clinton, so maybe they will need someone like this to come along and make an impact before America can turn away again from this lurch to the far right. I'll say one thing for Ronald Reagan, he may have been none too smart himself, but as a president he was in a totally different legue from Bush. He played and won much bigger battles than Bush Jnr could ever dream of - and what's more, he won most of them without having to fire a single shot. That's pretty damn impressive.

It's hard to take someone seriously when the label the current Bush as "far right." Perhaps, Raid, you are unfamiliar with what the term "far right" means in America?

Well when I say far right I mean about as far right as its possible to get without goose stepping your way around the Presidential lawn. I think Bush is probably somewhere right of Reagan and somewhere left of Beelzebub incarnate. But perhaps still not quite as right wing as certain board members here. So far at least he hasn't spoken of bombing protestors, or throwing them in jail, or stripping them of their civil liberties. But what the hey, its still early days I guess...

No way King George II is far right. Otherwise his administration would have continued where Clintons left off in terms of coming down hard on Microsoft in their anit-trust/monopoly trial. MS found guilty but MS dictated the terms of their "punishment". If Bushy was far right then MS wouldn't have gotten away so easily.

Still, I believe that he's just a monkey in suit along with his brown nosed Blair sidekick who looks like he should be in a Punch N Judy show. Thing I don't get is that Labour (UK) are supposed to be left wing, but their policies since they've been elected seem to be very right wing most of the time

Did you know that a poll was pulled on a website for some US polictician who asked whether they should go to war or not? A few days into the poll most votes were pro-war. A few days later it had swung a fair bit to anti-war. Then the site was pulled claming it had been "hacked by anti-war protesters". According to an analysis of the weblogs, the "hack" would have had to have been a program running on different computers to "make a vote" as nearly all of the IP addresses were unique.

Sounds like the presidential florida vote - just on a smaller scale.

Ahh now there's a crux of a dilemma. The left view the right as inherently evil and believe the secretly know it but just don't care. Where as the right believe, well, I don't know what the right believe... Except that they don't care... It makes me laugh when Republicans bang on about defending the human rights of the poor oppressed peoples of Iraq, when human rights in their own country, like basic access to healthcare and social welfare programs is denied to ordinary Americans and trillions of dollars of ordinary tax payers money is given away in tax cuts to the richest 3% of the American population. Since when did altruism and republicanism become compatible ideals...

As for references to the devil, lighten up dude. I think it was patently clear I wasn't being serious. It was a joke; you remember what they are don’t you?

History shows that military personal are the last people to want a war - they know first hand what is going to happen.

it is the left in the US that want to give all the taxpayers money away to special interest groups and animals like owls and gofers. Oh, not to mention they want to gove money away to every country in the world that can't support their own people, and even a bunch that can.

Quote:
by raid ****and trillions of dollars of ordinary tax payers money is given away in tax cuts to the richest 3% of the American population. Since when did altruism and republicanism become compatible ideals...****
about that statement- Who is the one that made that money in the first place? The government? NO- the people! The government doesn't GIVE anybody ANYTHING, the government produces nothing, lets not forget, the only thing the government does is take, through taxation. So it is Impossible for them to give someone something they just took from them.

And about satan- I was really just wondering if you believed in satan because you compared him to Bush, just wondering.

@BWX232 Well if your happy with Bush giving all your money to his rich friends that's up to you. They are probabably laughing all the way to the bank over it.

But what the hey, its not my money. Mind you I'd rather give a few bucks to a down on their luck Gopher than a filthy rich billionare. I don't know about you, but I havent seen any Billionars hanging our round any Salvation Army hostels recently. Not unless they aim to privatise them that is...

C'mon - for every straight non bribeable polictician I can show you a dozen more who are just as corrupt regardless of county/politics.

USA just gets the most flack over this because of the size of the country and the freedom the of press
