UK TV showed Iraqis prisoners being frisked etc and being told to walk to X point with their hands on their head .... Rumsfeld was on TV he looked very edgy when asked questions ... at one point i thought he was a borg ... telling the Iraqis that resistance is futile over and over again ..... war sux that is the reality of it ... its brutal and many people die

"Iraqi television showed film Sunday of at least four bodies, said to be U.S. soldiers, and five prisoners who said they were American troops.
Two of the prisoners, including a woman, appeared to be wounded. One was lying on the floor on a rug. They were the first U.S. prisoners known to have been taken by Iraq. The prisoners were questioned on air and gave their names, military identification numbers and home towns. The bodies and prisoners were shown on Iraqi television, and relayed by Al-Jazeera Arab satellite channel. The first prisoner shown gave his name as Miller and said he was from Kansas. Asked why he had come to Iraq he replied: "Because I was told to come here. I was just under orders. I was told to shoot - only if I'm shot at. I don't want to kill anybody." In Washington, U.S. defense officials said a small number of U.S. troops have apparently been captured and others killed by the Iraqi military in southern Iraq. The officials, who asked not to be identified, said the tape from the Al Jazeera showed some U.S. soldiers being interrogated and some dead from gunshots to the head. The officials said there was no direct confirmation of the capture, apparently involving as many as 10 U.S. troops from an American Army maintenance unit, but that notifications were being made to families based on the tape. "To me, it [the tape] was convincing," said one of the defense officials. Others said the tape could have been made by the Iraqi military and provided to Al Jazeera." I have seen it just small fragments of it and it showed some dead bodies they clsaimed were Americans and a couple of people that were obviously caught and Americans.
Showing images like this is not according to the Geneva convention if it applies to a nation...but for a tv company it is ok to publish images like this. Usa has many many times during and after the Gulf war showed images of captured Iraq`is.All according to the rules.So.....Rumsfield is a liar. The reason they dont show the images is possibly of respect for the relaitves of the prisoners and out of fear of what the opinion will be. I hardly think they will be either tortured or killed. Iraq has nothing to gain on doing so.Nothing whatsoever. Not here or in the Arab world. At the moment they are in need of showing that "We follow the rules" to gain opinion but.......when this show arrives at Bagdad.....i fear all hell will break loose. The Iraq`is arent surrendering as your goverenment claimed they would. The soldiers in the south was expected to be the ones not motivated at all....Well they obviously are...Those in Bagdad are supporsed to the ones...most motivated.... I don't support this war, but...
...if there are Americans in the hands of the Iraqis right now my feeling will do a 180 degree turn-about and I will support WHATEVER is neccessary to get them home safely. We don't abandon our own, it is just NOT right.

Yes this pisses ppeople but I think the war policy will remain basicly unchanged because of it. Shit like this is normal in war. If it happen alot more then we would do somethings different. |

I think that public reaction is going to play a BIG part in our strategy, as stupid as that may be I just got a gut feeling it's going to happen.

already happening
that is why we have imbedded media, this sort of thing happens all the time in war..but now, under military control, the media can give the whole world something better than "surviver" to watch now....this raised reality T.V. to a new morbid level....I wish all the journalist would stay the heck out but then that would be unrealistic...the IRAQI's know we have journalists and could use them to their advantage as well....

Ted Kopel
He finallly did it, he just couldn't wait till it was over...we saw two dead IRAQI's in civilian clothes and sandled feet, sheesh...this is gonna backfire I am afraid, maybe the marines got some toasts in their names at bars all over the U.S. but the muslims are going to use this in such a creative and devisive way.....and it's gonna get nastier...

But then
I could care less, WAR is hell, maybe americans who support and who whine and complain (protest) will develope the same opinion about war...I have been there and done that and it really really sucks...but it is much better to be the winner......and we will win!!

I heard on the news that there is definitely one US soldier dead, possibly executed by Iraqi soldiers. Eleven missing, four presumed dead and five captured. Also today at Nasiriyah ten more US soldiers were killed and forty injured.
MSNBC has a nice report on it here |

I saw a couple of minutes of the footage on the news here..dead Ameican soldiers in the street as close-up as half a body in the screen..gross..but reality of war
Also saw the POW's and heard them answering a few questions..seems the are support staff..mechanics and such who apperently took a wrong turn..they looked terrified and sounded scared(in my observation as if they have been tortured already)..The Iraqi interviewer asked one of them something like "Why are you here to kill Iraqi people ?" he replied in the manner of "I'm not..i'm a mechanic and only trained to return fire when fired upon..they started shooting at us so we shot back." The footage strongly speaks against Iraq if you ask me..these soldiers did not look at ease at all..they had a lot of fear in their eyes..as if they were afraid to answer the question but were afraid to keep silent as well.

Yes, you level that city with all the civilians in it, it wouldn't be the first time you killed civilians when an inferior, outnumbered army is holding up to your "elite soldiers". Holding back, pffft... The eagerness here is so big that you have started to shoot at your allies. You can't handle the power you possess, it's just as simple as that. |
