Barack Obama
If Clinton and Obama were the only two presidential candidates at the next election in two years time who would you vote for and why?

Obama seems like a clever man, that has few if none of the bad attributes associated with Clinton.
I think he is a much better choice than Clinton. I still have my doubts if the Democrats have any chance of winning the next election though.

I actually agree with the guy on a number of important points. I think he has a good head, and seems intelegent. I don't typically go with the dems, especially with the "kennedy" type. Sad thing is, I'm not sure the US is ready for a black president. Out of all the dems have to offer, the guy really is a ray of sunshine on a pile of steaming turds.

![]() I'd love to see him win against Clinton and have a shot. I haven't seen that much footage of him or read too much yet, but from what I have watched and read so far he appears to be the best candidate from either party for a number of years (IMO). I think that now is the time for a black president, to prove the fact that all men are created equal.

He is a bit young, but I guess he could surround himself with a quality, experienced staff. It would be a very positive step forward to have a black president. But I do not know that much about him, and I am not sure who else is running so I'm not so sure I would vote for him just yet. Gotta do the research. |

I seen on the Colbert report some gal insisting he "wasn't black" - but African - American' - the difference being - a 'black' is a descendant of a slave. So, because he wasn't GIVEN reparations from something that happened to his great (great?) grand pappy means something... ??? When these issues become 'important' in the media - yeah its a bit scary to me. Most of the results I get from a google search have been to someones blog - erm, Im not gonna take those too seriously. I hope few do. Ok - so I heard Obama plans to be out of iraq by march 2008 - but how? - anyone can say something like that. I hear nothing about his plan - and I hate to say it - it just sounds like any other politician thats lied to get into office in the past. |

From what I've heard Obama is whiter than Clinton. At least for the better parts.

I don't agree with either of their politics but I trust Hillary a whole lot less. An absolutely despicable person who deserves her marriage to an equally despicable person. We don't deserve either one of them.
Obama seems like a nice guy that I just don't agree with on several major issues. His problems are: 1. young and not so experienced. He may run again in 2012 if he does not get the nomination and this would be great experience. 2. He's black to white America and white to black America. Again, not his fault. He is a very bright man who should appeal to everyone but seems to attract mostly young idealists (ala Kennedy) 3. He is running against Hillary, who will skewer him with dirty tricks then play the sex card. ("you would not be saying that if I was a man") She has already cast doubt on his religious beliefs, and he has admitted to taking drugs. Working against both is that very few successful candidates come from the Senate. Most are former Governors. In US history only two senators have won the presidency. (Warren Harding and JFK)

Why do you guys hate Bill Clinton so much actually? In most of your posts, you hate Hilary because of Bill... What did that man do that was so horrible? He's considered out here in the world one of the best US presidents in recent memory...
I know I liked him while I lived in the US... Then again, I was very young

I think you have to take the Clintons as a team (Think Billary). Bill was president but Hillary was the most powerful First Lady ever.
She has plenty of things not derived from Bill that make her unpalatable. 1. 1993 Healthcare debacle 2. White House travelgate fiasco 3. Whitewater 4. Cattle futures scandal 5. carpetbagging in New York to name a few. They have a long history of lying, getting caught and still getting out of trouble mainly because people who can hurt them die suddenly. Being lawyers, they both think that all this is acceptable (do I need to define "is"?). As for the Clinton sex thing. I know lots of people will say that your personal life should have nothing to do with running the country. But at the same time we require (by law) CEOs of major corporations to refrain from sexual harassment/discrimination under threat of dismissal and huge lawsuits. If leaders are role models, then what message is being sent when the ultimate leader is an adulterer and liar and his wife backs him up. She is either very stupid or so enamored by power that she will say anything to get or keep it. Scary.

Well I find it strange that you guys idolize your leaders so much that they become role models...
But you make some valid points, though personally, I still find them not as bad as Bush but then again, I'm speaking from a global point of view so I don't count for much. |

Good points all. Clintons - both are scumbags. Bill lied under oath, surrendered his law license, gave out pardons for money and favors, reversed himself on Hatian imigrants, wimped out on Gays in the Military, signed a Republican Welfare Reform bill so he could look like a centrist and get re-elected, signed the DMCA, was unable to control his sexual urges to the point where he abused his power, cheated on his wife while in the white-house with a subordinate, and was accussed by more than one woman of sexual assault of various degrees. You nailed the Hilary thing big-time. Bush, domestically, has been very, very bad for the common man. Upended Overtime legislation for one thing, has done almost nothing involving a national energy policy despite at least 2 major energy occurrences during his presidency, has not supported minimum wage increases, has done very little to actually benefit the environment such as pushing higher gas mileage standards and actually trying to fund Fuel Cell tech. No child left behind act was a Kennedy bill that Bush adopted and helped get passed, then did not push Congress (controlled by Republicans) to fully fund it. It could have been a very good bill if he had stood behind implementing it. We have had 3 bad administrations in a row. Bummer. |

From a Canadian perspective, either one would be a huge improvement over the current guy. He is not seen as too bright here and has a tendancy to start unwinnable wars. Bill Clinton was popular in Canada - seen as a kind of cool guy - ..... But maybe things are better internally in the US now, with the current guy.

I'm still mad at Canada for all that Anti-US crap.
If you liked Clinton then you ain't that bright yourself. Why do other countries sugar-coat what a lying scumbag that guy is? Corrupt as hell too. |

I think one of the reasons Canadians tended to like Bill Clinton, was that he was voted to be President by the American people, twice. Anyways I don't vote there, so my opinion of the current administration is only related to foreign policies and climate change stuff. So I will just butt out, except to say Obama as president would be cool.

Obama is severely inexperienced. He showed that on the 60 minutes interview. I would prefer someone with a better political background - perhaps a governor or mayor of a large city. Mayor of Los Angeles, Dallas, New York, Chicago, something like that.
There is much more to governing that Obama needs to learn before I think he could be effective. He seems dreadfully naive. |

The more experience a politician has the more corrupt or embroiled in sleaze he or she becomes. Obama could be like a breath of fresh air, whether or not you agree with all the policies that he represents. What he said or did not say during '60 minutes' is not important IMO. If he had experience all you would have heard would be 'spin' and untruths.
Anyhow, what are your views on his policies for healthcare, the environment, taxes, defense & Iraq? Do you agree with some but not all? How does he compare to Brownback, Hunter, Giuliani, Romney & Cox? How much of their policies do you agree with?
