Fidel Castro retires after 49 years in power

Source: Reuters
_____________
HAVANA (Reuters) - Ailing Cuban leader Fidel Castro stepped down on Tuesday 49 years after taking power in an armed revolution, closing the book on a Cold War career that turned him into a leftist icon and a tyrant to his foes.

Castro, 81, who has not appeared in public since undergoing stomach surgery almost 19 months ago, said he would not seek a new term as president or leader of Cuba's armed forces when the National Assembly meets on Sunday.

Yes, there is definitely a place for capital punishment in modern society. Just because we've evolved in technological and humanitarian standpoints over the millennia doesn't mean that mass murderers, war criminals and child molesters need to be parolled on "good behavior" after ten years in the penal system. I can't help but think of what I would do to someone who hurt my daughter or my family on a personal basis, much less of what anyone else with less temperance would do. I think they call my feelings on that by another term -

"Revenge is a dish best served cold."

Vindication over something less trivial is moot, but the fact that someone is allowed to "rehabilitate" from such a depraved act is just plain ludicrous. Thieves can stop stealing, drug addicts can stop using (mostly), but murderers and chomos will NEVER stop being a sociopath. Plain and simple.

So, hang the bastards! Hang 'em high! Lift their bodies to the sky - and when their tongues roll out we'll know.

That's the end of them - and we all can go home.

My feelings on the subject of capital punishment are that, "two wrongs don't make a right", and I also believe that these people such as serial killers, paedophiles etc. shouldn't be granted the easy way out of being killed quickly, and I don't believe they should be parolled, I say life in prison should be life and be made to be as if you were in hell itself. Also surely the executioner himself would eventually become a mass murderer and then where do you draw the line?
