Is the SF police a joke?

French police come to Calif. to look into mysterious death - Yahoo! News

The french police after pressure from the family of a french/american who died in SF, sends its own investigative team. For some reason they don't believe that it was a suicide. Why? I quote:
Quote:
De la Plaza, 36, was found last June with stab wounds to his neck, chest and stomach. Strands of hair were stuck to the fingers of his left hand.
and

Quote:
The homicide detectives' theory — which strikes his family and friends as unlikely, even absurd — was that de la Plaza took drugs, stabbed himself, then washed or disposed of the knife before dying.
Well, I know where I don't want to go when I go to the USA.

Big Grin

Just another police story:
A month ago a man convicted in his absense to 20 years for murder in France was released from custody by the swedish police. The reason? The french police never sent anyone to pick him up. Fortunately he never left town and soon turned himself in again...

Is it me or people take this in a nationalistic way just because France is involved?

actually this illustrates that the key problem behind bringing a convicted killer to justice was politics, no police work. Even the French Police knew he was a killer, but he beat extradition until 2002. It is mind boggling but criminals all over the world simply change their address and continue to commit crime or run from justice, I could tell you stories of the UK but pedophiles run rampant here in the UK and it is terrible problem, not to mention prostitution, drugs, etc. It is a symptom of our culture I suppose and this thread might well be better served if moved to the political forum.

now about those bloody pedophiles and drug dealers in the UK

the police are hard pressed to prosecute or discover young prostitutes and drug dealers because highly placed and very wealthy members of UK society and government indulge in clandestine trists with the very abused and exploited children of the world that are brought here illegally, I heard this recently on the radio on the way to work and it seems to be human nature to exploit children and sex slaves all over the world, not just here and the police desperately want to do their jobs and catch murderers and thieves as well but if the community at large (our culture) looks the other way and continues to allow this to continue then it will only get worse. They very thing we publically abhor is allowed to continue to because pillars of society as well as your common criminal indulges in the sale and trading of human lives, drugs and prostitution.
You want to know why the police cant do their jobs...it is because we ourselves do not trust them as we do not trust our government.
Now I know that sounds a little sophmoric, but the internet is allowing crime to flourish and persist.
I know when my own daughter was attacked when she was a child, quick action by her mother and a piece of cookware ended what would have been a terrible crime against my princess. As for me, justice would have been dealt with by myself, not the court system.
Because people are shamed and victemized by criminals and miscreants they hide from the police, social workers and the law.
Police in SF, or any other city have to play their hand as they see it, and I know they deserve a bit of criticism but the myopic comments of general populace without benefit of a valuable perspective on what really happens on the streets of any city makes their comments moot.
You want to know who walks the line on credibility and trust look at the Dutch Police in a city that will go unmentioned because I am afraid other DH members would flock there on holiday LOL.

RSOblivion is on a distinguished road

I suppose you could look at it that way, or you could look at it that if people were able to defend themselves freely then it wouldn't be so much of a problem

The self-defence rules in the UK are pretty draconian (especially after the shootings in Scotland) as well as the police being pretty incompetant and more interested in speeding fines than real police work. If people were able to defend themselves physically its gonna be less overt attacks on people (you'd never know who was gonna fight back) and you would end up with more clever crimes rather than just physical brutality crimes. Its all well and good having cops, but if you have to run to them every time you meet a bully it becomes ridiculous and the cops end up with paperwork coming out of their ears and the real crims free to do what the hell they want.

Sounds like the legal system...
