I doubt the guy bought either gun legally. As far as I know you can get an AK but it can't be fully auto, and you have to jump thru a lot of hoops.

I still don't know why there isn't better gun control in the entire US.

It shouldn't be left up to states when deciding gun laws. In Michigan this guy would never be able to touch a gun, if I know my laws correctly.

Please explain how a fully automatic assault rifle designed for soldiers is required for home defense. Unless a bus full of rapists breaks into your home I think a handgun or shotgun will suffice.

UH, you do know that semi-auto only versions of the AK are available don't you? As well as other 'assault rifles'? Well maybe not, but I assure you that they are.

If having a full auto assalut weapon causes crime and shootings, why isn't Switzerland a virtual war zone, since almost everyone owns an assault weapon?

In this case it doesn't matter anyway since the guy was a criminal to start with, so ANY gun law meant nothing to him.

You can not claim that guns cause crime any more than you can claim spoons cause obesity. Outlaw guns, and criminals will use knives (like Falstaff said), outlaw spoons, and fat people will use forks.

All 'gun control' does is take away the ability of law abiding people's ability to protect themselves from the criminals.

In the case I linked to, if we had taken everyone's firearms away from them, the headline would have been "Woman raped by man for second time". Is there anyone that could honestly say that they would have rather seen that than the actual outcome?

Guns and knives are not equivalent. Bad people will find a way to hurt and kill others, but you have to consider the expressive power of the weapon being used.

A gun can spray into a front yard and wound a family of three from 25 feet away in a matter of seconds. A bullet can miss its target and continue on, through walls, into an unintended target. Knives can't do any of these things. Even if they could, the wound would be less deadly.

This is just one argument for gun control. I think the arms race notion also holds water - the police will have a harder time preventing innocent casualties as the weapons get bigger and more powerful. This is because as guns get bigger and more powerful, their expressive killing power grows. This makes those guns more harmful to society.

The cool thing is, getting caught with those weapons is illegal...so the simple act of possessing them gets you jail time. If it were legal, then not only do you need to deal with the weapon's destructive power, you also have one less way to get the criminal behind bars.

AK -47's are legal and fully automatic weapons are legal in some states.

Plus it is not really hard to make it automatic and it is not illegal to buy the parts to do so.


Restricting gun laws is moronic. It makes sure the people who can actually enjoy it won't where as the people who abuse it go through other means of getting weapons illegally. Also, if someone robs your house with an automatic submachine gun or assault rifle a shotgun or 9mm will do little to stop them. Also body armor is widely available so anyone with half brain knows to get it before they do something illegal. I think there shouldn't be restrictions on the weapons but person by person basis including courses, more permits, and hoops to jump through to get it.

Gun laws were already on the books that should have stopped this, but he is a crook and a drug dealer and they always seem to find a way.
Quentin Patrick the accused has three previous convictions for possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, is a convicted felon and is on probation.

It is illegal for convicted felons to possess a firearm.

This is a American tragedy one of the saddest things i have ever heard of, one moment a young family is enjoying its time together, the next its destroyed forever by a moron with a weapon he should have never had in his hands.

I hope they can track down his source for the firearm, selling one to a convicted felon is a serious offense and will get you significant prison sentence.
