I think it's quite apt. I believe the South Park episode I quoted was inspired by a new hunting law in america that forbade the killing of certain animals or in certain places unless it was for self defence and the actions of american hunters in response to it. However, I may be mistaken on this.

So even with the self-defence law in place it was twisted around by JimBob (aka loads of American gun lovin hunters) so although what they were doing was illegal it could be argued that it was legal.

The death penalty culture..

I must say that though I agree that for every crime there must be a punishment, and a person must atone for their crimes, there are some crimes for which there is not punishement, save death that I feel can possibly restore the balance of justice. It is becoming clearer to me now that many crimes that never go punished by any legal authority, the perpetraitor never answers to his or her victems. I believe that our soiciety at large, is always trying to find the quick and easy answer to captial crimes.

Our legal system is supposed to be blind, but a non white person could recieve a much harsher sentence than say a wealthy person. Free Legal defense is woefully inadequate in terms of what the state has to offer, it is an unfortunate truth, that good legal council cost money.

I don't like the South Park reference because the cartoon is supposed to be obscene and humorous at the same time. I find it tasteless, but it reveals aspects of our culture in terms of what we find interesting or funny.

When it comes to sentencing, I believe that the prosecution is influenced by emotion as well as the spirit of the law..therefore some crimes are never prosecuted to the full extent of the law, and some crimes that should ejudicated in a fair manner, often recieve harsher action because of the skin color of the accused.
