Obama Named Time's Person of the Year
For having the confidence to sketch an ambitious future in a gloomy hour, and for showing the competence that makes Americans hopeful he might pull it off, the President-elect is TIME's Person of the Year.

Off tangent: irrelevant, out of touch. I thought that was a global saying, mmh must be local then?
MMhh, just corrected it: to suddenly start talking about a different subject. "We were talking about property prices and you went off on a tangent." Oh well I use it to mean someones talking irrelevant trash and scoring zero points during a conversation,I mean argument.

Anyways, he should know his stuff. |

That's it. That's all this twit has accomplished. Let me translate that for you - He's done nothing but be black, be liked (loved) by the media, and be a Democrat. Everything thing else in his background is mediocre at best. He's not even that great of a speaker and isn't all that charismatic (compared to like a Kennedy) Maybe he's done enough to look good in a run for a State Congress seat. I don't honestly even know how he got elected to the US Congress. Here's my question to you - if he ain't even Pres or done anything in that capacity yet, why the hell is he Times man of the year? Answer - he's the first black man elected to the US Presidency. Heck a reason to me...

Re: Obama Named Time's Person of the Year
Just think about it. Even if he was the person of the year due to his skin color (I'm not saying he was), exactly the same thing may have happened if all the previous presidents were black. The first white preident would have been celebrated as many have celebrated Obama. Even in the event of Hillary Clinton becoming president, she would have been celebrated in the same way, only because of her gender, not her race. Isn't this an inevitable happening, depending on the unique points of the candidate?

Re: Obama Named Time's Person of the Year
What hasn't he done? He's shown generations that you can live your dream. He's shown us that your skin colour doesn't mean you can't do what you want. He's shown us that the people finally want to accept change. What do you want him to do? What would have McCain done, which Obama can't? In my view it was perfectly fine for him to be TIMEs the person of the year', otherwise who do you think would have been worthy?

Re: Obama Named Time's Person of the Year
Anyone could have stood at the podeum and shouted the word "change" and got elected.
He hasn't done anything substatial, he likely won't do anything truly benificial. But we'll see...... IMO time is jumping the gun, wtf are people praising someone that hasn't done a gaud damn thing yet? The praise is misdirect right away as well, it's the people that elected him.

Big F'n Deal.
Time has also in the past named Adolph Hitler (1938), Joseph Stalin (1939 & 1942), Nikita Krushchev (1957), and Ayatullah Khomeini (1979). I'd say he fits in well.

That's probably about right too ![]() ![]() ![]() Obama, spent roughly 137 days as a Senator, before abandoning his 'job' as a Senator, and started campaigning for President. He's an empty suit, and not much more than a snake oil salesman. However, enough people bought in to his snake oil pitch, and we are going to be stuck with him for 4 years. I shudder to think about those 4 years, and what sort of shape we will be in after them, but we survived the Carter years, and we will survive the Obamanation years as well.

Re: Obama Named Time's Person of the Year
No, and neither did most people until they jumped on the "Its cool to hate the president" band wagon like yourself.
Also, Judas forgot to say be black and shout out "change" from on top of the podium. He's no Martin Luther King Jr. and his loyalty is in the wrong places for the right reasons. Wishful thinking doesn't get us out of a depression and neither with Times "person of the year" Again tanaka, you live in New Zealand so it is not you who has to suffer under him. Therefore your word on this subject amounts to a little under a pile of Dog crap that was freshly steamed here in the USA. |

He is as close to Martin Luther King Jr. as we can get in modern times. That's why alot of people have stood behind him, maybe with the dream of making him to be like Luther. Although I doubt he will ever be as great as Martin Luther King, he can sure be pretty close (after actually creating change, and doing beneficial deeds). I know my word basically means nothing as I do not live in the USA like you, but I am passionate about this issue as I believe he deserved what he got. The election campaigns here in NZ are nothing compared to the ones in the USA, and our elections do not get as much publicity, that's why nobody's arguing over our new Prime Minister. Thanks, Tanaka ![]() ![]()

Re: Obama Named Time's Person of the Year
obama has the potential to lead the country down what martin luther king would figure to be the best route, or down the same path of adolf.
that's besides the point though. Both had the same offerings, same smash vote and acceptance, and until they were in power for a little while, it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. all i see for obama though is 1 or 2 things. perhaps 3... He is either shot and killed at some point, probably sooner then later. Either shortly after doing some rather great things, or just before. He becomes the load bearing president for all the previous presidents mistakes and is just a good face on the country that is mostly ran by some fairly insane people. He IS the president that we shall all be concerned about.
