Re: 2012 - End of the world as we know it.
It's always the end of the world as we know it. It's called change, and it happens over time. That's why our brains are evolved to adapt to learn about the changes, so we may once more know the world.
The idea that any cosmic event would occur due to coincidences in our own little timekeeping methods is not only absurd, it's narcissistic. |

Wow RealityRipple thats what I think too, u know all these prophecies of doom religious biblical or whatever ,Apocalypse are just a metaphor for the greatest change thats currently affecting us starting with science.
It took us 3mil years to get here but we have reached a accelerated mode of growth. We are at the edge of something great(our creativity and spirit) and also horrible(our stupidity)

Re: 2012 - End of the world as we know it.
the world will never end.. the only thing that would do such a thing is the death of our sun (which is what... 4 billion years away from?)
or the sudden implosion from black hole or related occurance.. OR someone brilliant decides that making and setting off an anti-matter explosion would be a good idea... No i'm sure, even with all the nuclear arsenal here, we could set them all off and all that would happen is make this rock a lifeless rock... still turning. Now the hope is that it'll mark the date of the END OF THE WORLD.. AS WE KNOW IT... aka no so much as devestation... but actual change that will completely change the outlook of what we know now.. course sum beleive they know what that might mean, and that many already know what it could mean.

Re: 2012 - End of the world as we know it.
Oh good this is the political and religious forum thought it was news forum , phew.
We wont die out dude, we'll move beyond our current dilemmas Then we'll continue to evolve till we reach the level of "the Q" in Startrek. ![]() Problem is we have to realise that the good in us is more worthy than personal gain. A hard lesson that will ensure a lot of suffering, but like slavery, inequality ......this phase will also pass. ![]() There is this song that goes "its the end of the world as we know it" Some rock band damn, I hate it when that happens ![]() This end is a good thing ;just like this economic meltdown which is bad but it'll wake people up(hopefully) 2012 however, ahuh, I wont hold my breath!

Re: 2012 - End of the world as we know it.
The idea of end and beginning is based on the our understanding of existence, IMO. We're set up to think of beginning and end because that's how our lives operate. The concept of infinite, while something we can grasp, is hard to separate from our biology.
As we advance, psychologically, we're beginning to recognize the incongruities old methods of thought, as many have done here. Carl Jung was on to something when he identified the Archetype we all address in that regard. Whether he covered the whole scope of it, is left to question. |

hmm, we'll see what happens. I couldn't care less as long as my death is painless..

Re: 2012 - End of the world as we know it.
I bet nothing will happen, but if something does, make it painless like Neshi said. What I do know is people will make money off it.

Re: 2012 - End of the world as we know it.
theres a bit of a difference between religious predictions that really have no bases vs a calender that has every single time, perfectly predicted atrological movements and occurances, as well as compensated for stellar drift by a culture that didn't have telescopes or computers or anything. Complex caculations that even todays scientists aren't sure how to come close to the same accuracy.
however the is a number of aztec metaphors and other terminology that doesn't make sense related to the 2012 calender end date and restart that is of interest. Hopefully it brings change, and not the type that obama is currently instatuting that is completely against the wishes of the people.

Re: 2012 - End of the world as we know it.
Never thought I'd see a political/religious debate thread on a computer forum.
I'm a Bible believer and believe on Jesus Christ as The Savior of the world and as my personal Savior; that especially because I've already been down the road of the mystic (Rosicrucian Order and Traditional Martinist Order of France), and already know where that road ends up; in circles. Just like in everything else, there's believers that are studied, and then those blind followers who are not but instead just follow and believe whatever men tell them to believe. Religion is actually an invention of man, and not from God. I conversed with a lady doing her masters thesis on the Mayan calendar once, and asked her what the Mayans believed about the idea of world ages. She said 2012 was the date their calendar ended, and I then asked if they believed that meant the end. She said no, but only the end of this present world age. She said the Mayans held to the idea of continuous world ages, ad infinitum. Many may not know it, but The Bible agrees with that point about world ages, but not necessarily with the 2012 date, for there is another world age coming after this one, to last only a thousand years though, and then a final world age after that. The Bible teaches about 3 world ages only. Some religious groups have been trying to use that 2012 Mayan calendar date to get more converts to Christ, using it like a scare tactic. But that's the idea of man playing religion again. It's simply not going to work on those who have no fear, for whatever reason of one's lack of fear. The Bible gives detailed specifics of events leading up to that future thousand years age, but never the actual date it will come to pass. The Bible has given specific dates with certain prophecies, but not that one. It's to be a surprise for a lot of people who aren't looking for it. While I was a Rosucrucian and Martinist, they covered just about every known religious and philosphical system of history, both ancient and post modern, including Jewish Kabbalah and the esoteric teachings from the ancient 'mystery schools' of ancient Greece, Egypt, and the Far East. In many of those belief systems there is a parallel to the death of a savior type and a type of renewing and/or resurrection, but only in the philosophical sense. Only with The Bible is there actual prophetic fulfillment proof of one coming to die on a cross. One of the first things the Rosicrucians proposed in their teaching was disciplined reading of The Bible. |

Re: 2012 - End of the world as we know it.
no offense but alot of that i can only take for a grain of salt..... no different then alot of the current myan or others own tellings.....
Considering that huge swath of bibles out there that all claim the same thing... unless the very orginal one has been "properly" translated... Course it would be all interesting as there is a modern day translation from as near as orginal text they could find, specially from the biblical similarities of the Summarians own Tablets that not only better discribe in greater detail exact subjects of the bible, they predate it altogether. This raises reasonable questions as well as true orgin of the events. What of even greater interest is thier perfect documented on the tablets that have recently been translated that not only state the size of our solar system's planets and orientation.. but color and metaphorically, the enviroments. And of course, they themselves have predictions that are of great interest. I'm also curious about this world wide acknowledgement of a West to East sun movement instead of our current East to West..... this is very well documented in a number of locations around the world.

Re: 2012 - End of the world as we know it.
Forgive me for being blunt but WHAT THE FUCK DO THE MAYANS KNOW? They didn't see their own end coming and even though they were ahead of their time in many technological aspects it is ridiculous that some people give even a second thought to their ancient calenders.

Actually technically.... they did see thier own ending coming.. they just didn't understand it at the time. To this day, they still know more then what we know in specific areas, they are still accurate. That in itself is worthwhile to pay at least a little bit of attention to, specially when even you let alone anyone else can't explain how they know this stuff. If you can, i'd like to hear your brilliant explaination. Come on now, it's gotta be nobel prize winning stuff you've got sitting there.
