It's pretty obvious that none of you guys were in the military during a time of hostilities/war.

This is just typical military "black humor". All nation's miitary do similar things. It' a way of coping with the stress.

Yeah, it's not "PC", but then, the people worrying about whether it's "PC" or not aren't the ones that are in the line of fire and just might be the next one killed in the conflict.
