Actually it was just the opposite..... an implosion. It was called the great suck.

Re: Big Bang, do you believe that how the universe Began?
I do so long as another better theory comes along to disprove it , and it would have to explain dark matter and dark energy, coz as far as I can remember from my 1st and 2nd year physics they didnt know what the hell those things really were and how they came about.

Re: Big Bang, do you believe that how the universe Began?
I chose "just a theory"; it's the most plausible theory available and has stood the test of time so I accept it as the answer but it's far from scientific fact.

Sure, as long as you don't mind me believing that God caused that bang to happen then I can live with that being the means by which He created the Earth.

Best theory at present.
If you asked me to explain singularities or Quantum mechanics I wouldn't have a clue. To be honest I'm not really that concerned. I am 99.5% certain that magic fairies/pixies/gods didn't do it though

Its the most plausible theory at the moment, so i voted "of course, it's science"

Re: Big Bang, do you believe that how the universe Began?
I find it almost insulting to claim that the universe (that is EVERYTHING) is just about 13-14 or so, billion years old. Perhaps this part of the universe is at about 20, but the whole thing? Nah.
So yes, it's possible that this part was created with a Bing Bang, but I don't believe the whole universe has a start-beginning. There is no reason to have one/any.

No matter how many millions (billions) get spent on trying to figure this out, nobody will EVER know for sure. It's a huge waste of time and money.....
lets feed some starving people or stop a couple of wars instead!!!

how old was the small then an atom sized initial state of the universe was before the big bang?.... wasn't it still a universe... just in a small space?

Re: Big Bang, do you believe that how the universe Began?
I will not believe something really really happened unless there is conclusive evidence for it. That being said, the Big Bang theory has more evidence supporting it than competing theories, and that's why I support it, but will not say that's exactly what happened. No one can say exactly what happened unless they go back in time and witness it. Anyone have a time machine?

Ahem... Anyway, I am not sure what I believe. I was raised an Anglican but regularly attended a Wesleyan church through high school. I am not sure what or why I started to distance myself from Christianity. The biblical knowledge is still in tact but an unwillingness to fully believe it keeps me from putting 2 and 2 together and standing behind creation. As for the big bang theory, that is a lot of things that just happened to go right at the same time rolled up in a one in a bajillion chance with a side order of improbability. I have a better chance of tripping over a winning lottery ticket than I do having the circumstances become just right so that a new universe with new life forms on the back side of my toilet. I run a clean ship so if that did happen I probably wouldn't even know it. I'm content with simply being here and making the most of it for myself and for others. That is what I would rather put my time and effort into doing instead of pondering creation vs big bang/evolution. |

Re: Big Bang, do you believe that how the universe Began?
Its always nice to know, ive realized that life or ages are divided by those who know and those who are happy to believe what they are told.
My belief is that there is no creation as science doesn't support it, I do believe that the universe goes through phases of life and death far longer than anyone can find evidence for it, so the big bang would be the beginning of the cycle of life from the universe and Judas what the hell man , multiverse,i've head that from some scientists but I learned something quite interesting , all dimensions exist within the same-space for example you can track 1 dim, 2 dim , 3dim here within THIS dim, is it also not possible for 1000th dim to exist HERE as well we are just unaware of it. @ Tyrsons ur right man those guys buidling that collider should spend that money on a farming mechanism that will feed starving people, they could build 10 skyscrapers with that money that they can have farms in them. Whats lacking is the people organising the funds dont givashit

Re: Big Bang, do you believe that how the universe Began?
Farming and feeding people? There is enough technology and food to feed everyone on the planet. It's not a matter of money spent elsewhere that causes famine and disease.

Re: Big Bang, do you believe that how the universe Began?
Beaurocracy, plus, it doesn't make profit. Plus it is better to have a part of the population living in worse conditions so that they do the shit you don't want to do, and with lower wages. Just giving away food, water, medicine for to be a good human, doesn't pay the bills at home, it doesn't make the salaries of the people making it possible and it just doesn't make any financial sense.
Also, when you have, in some areas, people forming up gangs, tribes, whatever, to use any given help to help their own subsection of people so that they gain local power, you just start to think, why the fuck should I care? They are going to kill each other anyway. There is plenty of food and ways to get the food on any part of the planet. There are just not enough good reasons to do it. Plus, you might help a homeless guy on the street, but that doesn't mean you want to feed him every single day for the rest of your life. Same train of thought.

Re: Big Bang, do you believe that how the universe Began?
If you are one of the cogs of the machine that sens food to them, and you get paid to do so, or not. If you choose if you are going to get paid to do your job, and feed yourself and your own family, or not for the sake of "humanity". What will you do? Demand money for your time or do it for free? It's as simple as that. And that is just a very simple way of seeing things. Anyway, this has nothing to do with the main topic, let's not go off topic.

And I think it is generally accepted that current expansion of the universe (after Big Bang) is just a phase in a never-ending cycle of expansions and contractions. BTW, i hear that they have recently disproved the theory that meteor impact killed dinosaurs. I'm an agricultural engineer, and one of the first things they told us in university was that Earth could easily feed 80+ billions of people. And that's without exotic methods like hydroponics and stuff. Last edited by deBelly; Nov 14, 2009 at 02:43 PM. |

@ Blue sad but true, no worries somehow I know we'll learn how to care for one another, but I'm afraid we'll learn only when we've brought each other to the brink of utter destruction suffering and poverty not yet seen here.
Anyway yeah the big bang, been there done that

Re: Big Bang, do you believe that how the universe Began?
It's a good theory, but I wasn't able to observe it as it happened therefore not a fact. So until the LHC causes a gigantic blackhole, and we do it all over again, I'll go with it for now.
