When I watch local news, knowing full well that there are topics that people want to hear about, and the people on the News cast are hee-hee-hah-hah'ing about trivial crap, no I don't trust them at all to tell me anything actually useful. I get more informative news from the internet. And you still have to take much of that with a grain of salt.

out of all the broadcasted shows across major networks.... unfortunately the daily show is the closest thing to actually bringing to light some of the bullshit.. but it barely touches the tip of the iceberg...

Pretty DAMN sad when a comedy show ... is your best form of news coverage that actually does some investigative reporting.. it just unfortunately only does it into the news itself most of the time that is broadcasted....

There's to much money involved for news to broadcast anything useful so no I don't trust them what's so ever. When you have most of the news that is on TV owned by very few companies, the news they generally bring up is biased and does nothing to bring up the truth at all. The news is just about as bad as politics, they skim across the top of story but leave out almost everything meaningful.

When I think of news and politics, the movie V is for Vendetta comes to mind.

I treat mainstream news like a weather forecast, it's not very reliable and in a week you'll know with greater certainty what actually happened.

This is the problem with commercial interests.

Not that I'm saying that public service media should always be fully trusted, there's always people with their own preferences and agendas behind things, but since there is no profit involved there is a lot less reason for anyone to use it for their own gain.

In general I have to say I trust the swedish government owned television and radio, it's the commercial channels and papers I don't trust fully and since most papers have an openly political direction you have to be aware of this when you read them.

i trust thorough research and being able to share that information with many others and form intelligent ideas on the matter and still have different ideas to cover all aspects....

news cannot be simply told fact for fact because it still usually misses out on some of the other aspects of what really is going on.

Everyone has to at all times listen and view with a critical ear and eye. If you don't have an open and critical mind you will be easily manipulated.

Do not for one second believe that there are such things as objective media, there will always be people with their own beliefs and subjective analysis behind events they report.

And most importantly. If you believe that it's only dictatorships that use untruthful or selective propaganda you're a mindless sheep. ALL governments do it, in one way or another. They use media for their own purposes and since most media are in the business of making money they willingly comply.

I selected that I trust mainstream media. Of course it's biased and unreliable, but non-mainstream will often be even more so. I trust that most of what's reported has a basis in the truth.
