And that's probably how my mom and dad would react if they found out I'm atheist. It's just sad that parents push their religious beliefs on their children. It's really something the children should discover for themselves, otherwise it's just pure brainwashing.

Yeah but they have been indoctrinated themselves, it's a vicious cycle.

If they truly believed in all that heaven/hell stuff then to be told by their children that they don't believe would be pretty traumatic. Like that woman who shot her son in the head at a gun range - if you truly believed then that would be about the most selfless and loving thing you could possibly do. Which is why religious nonsense is dangerous.

This proves the fact that people that "think" they beleive in god and then do this.... are hypocrits..


My father is... for lack of a better word.. considered a bishop in terms of Catholic upbringing.... having taken years and years of it and such... (no i'm not saying being catholic.... talking about the schooling and such)

Anywho he's pretty damn stern in his views... however not ONCE were 4 of us kids ever really presented with religion... christmas and easter were probably the only things.. but then again it wasn't about jesus in either.. they were just eventful holidays to present gifts and paint eggs... that was all.

We were brought up to think whatever we want.. question everything, and form intelligent oppinions that COULD be swayed or completely changed at any given moment for any reason at all....

That woman makes me sick.

This isn't the way to bring up a child especially if you want him to take after your own religion, the more you try and force him/her, the more they will pull away, you have to let them decide for themselves whether or not to believe in God let alone your religion.

It occurred to me it's probably easier to tell your parents you believe in a different God than none at all. Ease them into accepting your true beliefs in the meantime at least they'll be satisfied you believe in a God.
