Nice touch.
BBC News - Fury over doctor's book on sex education for Muslims
I am glad to see someone trying to help people. I strongly believe that a huge problem behind people's "bad" actions, is in one way or the other related to sex. Bravo to this man and to anyone else who tries to help. Not just for Muslim population but in general.

Re: Nice touch.
I don't think that anything of this kind is needed for the population in general, at least not in my experience. My sex education in school was never insufficient or too late.
If it is a genuine issue in Muslim populations, though, then good on him for trying to tackle it. I guess only time will tell whether what he's done will actually work.

Re: Nice touch.
Well, that's the point, your sex ed was never late or insufficient, but people in certain regions don't get any. And it's not just ultra conservative countries like Pakistan, sadly enough, there is no sex ed in schools here either and it doesn't seem like it's a priority for anyone, so the number of misconceptions about sex, STDs and reproduction floating around is horrific and those who have to learn about it from their own personal experience or peers are potentially in a lot of trouble.

Where is that, if you don't mind my asking?

Re: Nice touch.
Serbia. Since 2000., we have been trying to get our educational system up to date, but we're seriously lacking direction.
The first thing they wanted to do was reintroduce religious education to primary and secondary schools and make it compulsory. After some protests, the children were allowed to choose between religious and "civic" education. Then we tried to introduce the Bologna declaration, but the minister of education who was working on it was, in the next cabinet, replaced by a lady who tried (and eventually failed) to "make her mark in history of our education" (as she put it) by removing Darwin from the program and the reform of higher education was put on ice. The new law about universities was finally passed a couple of years ago, but it's application is still lacking. As for sexual education, it gets publicly mentioned (as in someone says on TV that it should be introduced to schools) about every two years (no exaggeration) and that's that. EDIT: To be fair, there are one or two decently made books aimed at youths on the matter, there's an organization spreading awareness and knowledge about safe sex and I remember that they were invited to my school to teach a class (one class, 45 mins) on the subject once when I was around 14 and occasionally, during a compulsory medical, pupils might be shown a short documentary or given a small test on the matter, so it's not all black but, in general, organized chances for teenagers to get some reliable info on the subject are few and far between.

Re: Nice touch.
there isn't enough sex education..... period.... even with some of the terrible sex ed given in school... which most of all are a joke..
full eduction of sex.... would be nice.... but most of the education is just the simple fairly obvious stuff..... bigger details need to be given.. example would be a good start
