Egypt Revolution
I had to make a new thread dedicated to Egypt Current revolution against corruption and injustice for the past 30 years. this revolution was bound to happen but no one expected when , people are fed up since ages but fear was stronger than their will , but by 25 January , they realized there is no meaning of living if you are abused and controlled by smugglers and thieves. Those people don't follow any political party or a group , they just wanted to live normally like everyone in the world. Let's pray for the 300 who sacrificed their lives for a better live for their people. Most of them are young people between 18 and 30 years old.
If anyone want to share his/her thoughts or emotions , you are welcome.

Re: Egypt Revolution
I've been updating myself daily. I'm glad that people are not giving up and hearing of new people turning up for todays protests. Al Jazeeras live channel has been an excellent source through the days when few others had coverage, and also payed the price. Unfortunately only the Egyptian people truly care about the Egyptian people right now. They can trust no one else and must not waste hope on others than themselves.

Re: Egypt Revolution
I hope Egypt gets a fair democratic system. All most people in the world want is a peaceful, just and comfortable place in which to live their lives. I hope that is what comes of this situation.
I have to say I'm not familiar with the current government in Egypt. Any info from an insider would be welcomed if it was safe to put that information online. |

Re: Egypt Revolution
I've been following the developments in Egypt using the Guardian's live update page since the protests started.
It's great to see people standing up for what they think is right, and achieving something without having to resort to violence or outsider help. Hopefully this change can be completed quickly, and without any further loss of blood.

to be honest i didn't really want to start a thread about Egypt as it is not my place to do so ..... this has to be sorted out by Egyptians .... when this is all over and the people gain their democratic rights, the western nations must be their to help the people of Egypt and the goverment they choose to elect ... Egypt in my opinion is vital for the stability of the middle east and it is equally vital that peoples lives improve ... Egypt has a rich cultural heritage that few countries can come close to match

Re: Egypt Revolution
I really hope a legitimate democratic government is put in place, but at this point it could be just as easy for Baredei, Muslim Brotherhood, or other groups to take a stranglehold over the country.
I suppose we'll just have to wait with baited breath at this point.

Re: Egypt Revolution
30 years of state of emergency sounds bad enough, without all else; we've had a few months of it here a couple of years ago and, while it did help the police to tackle mafia more easily and efficiently, everybody breathed a sigh of relief once it was abolished.

Re: Egypt Revolution
I agree , the oscillation of the US stance is embarrassing. Though , like you said, we don't want foreign interference in any form even when some politics think it is an advice or something. The situation was the same since 30 years and they only discovered it was bad when the people outraged !!!

Re: Egypt Revolution
I really hope that Egyptians will find a better government and live better lives. I'm an Israeli, but I will venture to say that if it really improves the daily lives of Egyptians then I'll consider it worthwhile even if the new government ends up more hostile toward Israel (as long as that doesn't degenerate into violence). Really, you guys (and everyone else) deserve a decent life without crooked rulers.
Still it bugs me that people on both sides try to blame Israel. I heard that Mubarak blamed the riots on Israel and rioters blamed Mubarak on Israel. |

But as Ali said earlier they don't want any foreign involvement. And I support this fully! Only the people in Egypt can define what kind off government they need and want. Well Mubarak was playing nice with Israel and then in Islamic countries it's easy to blame Israel for anything what doesn't please the government.. |

I suspect this is true, and I hope I am right because if I am not it will be one dark page in the history of Egyptian military.

Re: Egypt Revolution
When it comes to foreign relations.... nearly every country around the world.... more so with countries with "higher power" have groups of people imposing "push" any chance they get on the countries they are in..
It just depends on your own viewpoint of WHOM has more push in the area and why/how they do... or even what other countries are also involved. This is a matter of fact of things like this occuring.. and has been for centuries... it just happens to be occuring much more frequently.. and some of the tactics are by todays moral standards and ethics or what we would deem "right vs wrong" is heavily on the "wrong side"... There is no denying that there are people within both sides that are trying to push it either way.. it's the basic 90/5/5 % rule applied to most things. 5% are doing stuff out of self interest, generally bad things occur..... 90% are doing it for the general fairness... 5% are doing everything even some of the bad stuff in the interest of doing it for their people.... self sacrifice.... they tend to be martyrs. These people can quickly provided with a win and power...... turn into the 5% that are bad... Absalute Power Corrupts Absalutely. Current world government are ripe with corruption..... to much power put into a single person.... with current technology today..... a lot more of the power can be spread out amongst all the people.

Re: Egypt Revolution
It won't be over soon here I guess, it is a very critical situation and no one knows where is is heading. Discomfort and fear is the common feeling here. Mubarak should appear in an hour and decides what is he gonna do , either stepping down or delegate his authority to someone else. I hope this all ends well.

Re: Egypt Revolution
From my experience, it can be over soon (we had a similar thing in '99.). If the president has lost support of the military and the police, he'll concede and it will be over in a moment (fingers crossed).

The problem is the vice president, he is a former CIA point man, and rendition expert, as well as a known torturer and murderer.

Re: Egypt Revolution
With all the uncertainty of handing over power to an army council, this is great news. Hopefully this is a transitional solution that the people can believe in. Some questions still remain about how much power Suleiman and the ruling party still has though. Unless kept at an arms lengths distance by the council, the old power could make a move in a couple of months after things are likely to have quieted down. Tonight is celebration, tomorrow is vigilance.

I guess Suleman is something from the past now, Hopefully the army will protect the egyptians from any kind of revenge the old party might do.

Re: Egypt Revolution
Revenge? If they lost power, I doubt that they'll be in any position for that. But bear in mind one thing, after new parties come into power, should they fail to meet the expectations of the people, and it's not at all unlikely, there's a good chance of old structures regaining popular support.
Still, congratulations.
