Beware of the Greeks for they bare gifts
I just read an article about Greek investments in the Balkans and I must say I dont know what to think.
Greeks bearing gifts Do you think that economic conquest is an acceptable way of conquest? Considering that we have issues with some of the Balkan countries like the name for FYROM is it just an innocent oppening to new markets or are we trying to take over their country? Should this form of conquest be employed in other situations? And finally do you think that buying politicians is a good practice or is it going to backfire?

Sorry man.... This is a non American topic, so clearly none of our American members really give that much of a f@ck.
Kinda like the Spain thing. 200 dead - one of Americas closest alies during the gulf war - and not a single damn thread here even as much as mentioning it. Now that sucks! GJ |

I just thought it was worth noting that no one had mentioned it. Oh and there was a TON of threads opend up everywhere about 9/11, with everyone expressing their sympathy. I just got the impression that this forum seemed somehow oddly silent after this attack.

Those threads still aren't debating. And I wouldn't post in those threads if they were in here. And it has been mentioned in the Off Topic Forum.

Well why not talk about it in the political forum? After all it had devastating political concequences, both for the people of Spain and for the so called alliance on terror. Spain was a corner stone of that alliance - and now it seems that the Spanish people have decided that terrorism can be allowed to win - and can even make them change their government for one that now fully intends to withdraw all its forces from Iraq. In the whole scheme of things, this counts as a major defeat in the war on terror - as it demonstrates to the terrorists that they can win and can effect change through violence and through the use of bombs agaisnt large civilian targets.
Now if that isn't a political topic and isn't worth discussing in a political forum I don't know what is. But then, that's just my opinion. Someone here once complained about all the Europeans starting topics on American subjects. It would be nice for a change if just maybe an American started a thread on a European (or any other national) subject. Maybe it's just me, but somehow I get the impression that that's unlikely to ever happen. I could always be wrong though. GJ |

Also I read your article but I have to plead to much ignorance on the entire situation. Because even though it contained a lot of detail, there is a lot of background that I am ignorant of. If it were not for this I would comment. You already schooled me bad enough on greece a ways back lol.

Man what planet are you on? Do you see anyone here asking for America to apologise for the actions of some terrorists? Please read the line back to me that says this - or even implies it. It was simply noted that when America got hit with a terrorist attack, the political threads were full of topics discussing it and its political consequences. But when it happens to another country - in this case Spain - not one American seems interested - which looks almost as though many Americans are too selfish and self obsessed to care about anyone other than themselves.
That in any case is how it looked - and it took perhaps two weeks after the event before it was even mentioned. I personally waited to see how long it would take before anyone did - and my impression is that unless I had eventually said something, no one here would have bothered discussing it. Now if you can read into that that anyone here is asking anybody to apologise for the actions of terrorists - you are going to have to spell it out for me, because I'm afraid I can't see it. GJ |

So if everyone else had ignored September the 11th and never mentioned it, you wouldn't have thought that Europeans (and everyone else) were ignorant and didn't care?
Besides which he hasn't got a point. He said someone asked Americans to appologise for the actions of some terrorists. No one here said anything like that. So where is his point? I'm glad you can see it because I can't. GJ |
