Well voting for the other person because you hate the other is the wrong reason for voting. Try finding something you like about Bush. It will then be easier to vote for him. It is typically the left who do the voting out of hate. (We hate Bush, so we will vote for Kerry). I've heard that so much lately.

Funny, the hate was coming from the right when Clinton was in office and later when Gore ran for the Presidency. So your statement "It is typically the left who do the voting out of hate" seems to be untrue. Also look at history a bit and you will discover that most of those who stood against civil rights in the 60's were members of the right. Oh there were a few democrats as well, they were reffered to as "dixie-crats". Traditionly these dixie-crats were "conservative" democrats. They along with many on the right embodied the very meaning of "hate" They felt that a persons skin color or national origin could somehow make that person more or less of a person. Perhaps you weren't around to see those things ? And I dont mean that as an attack on you. But judging from your BD listed in your profile you were not around in that era and are probably judging things over a much shorter time period. Were you active in polotics prior to 2000 ?? or even 1996. Perhaps before you make such a blanket statement you should look at a bit more of history.

Come on now, that is incorrect. Before you quote history, it is best that you know it. The democrats were primarily against it and if it wasn't for the republicans at that time, it is hard telling how blacks would be treated today.

Now I am not going to debate this or argue with you about this. I just think the truth should be told. Not the myth you stated above.

You can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink ....Before you tell me I'm "stating a myth" you should read through the yale.edu link you provided. The following is a direct quote.

Quote:
from yale.edu/ynhti/curriculum/units/1982/3/82.03.04.x.html
The Civil Rights Movement and the reactions it caused would lead to the birth of the strongest civil rights legislation since Reconstruction

The sit-ins which began in 1960 in North Carolina were well publicized by the media. This was to have a tremendous effect on the Democratic Convention. As a result, the Democrats came up with a very liberal platform with respect to civil rights. As far as voting, the convention stated that the Executive Branch would use its full power under the C. R. A.’s of 1957 and 1960 to insure all Americans of their right to vote. The Democrats stated that they would end discrimination in public education, federal housing programs and federally assisted housing.

It is important to note that the Republican Platform was similar to the Democratic Platform except in one area. The only difference seemed to be that the Democrats wanted to eliminate the literacy and poll taxes completely whereas the Republican favored a literacy qualification (completion of 6 primary grades in a state accredited school).
"literacy and poll taxes" the so called "brown laws" enacted in many sothern states, aimed at denial of voting rights to black americans , these laws were also favored by the "dixie-crats". The "dixie-crats" were southern democrats who fought very hard against civil rights. I hardly think they represent democrats in general. Thankfully enough members of both parties voted for passage of the CVA . This is the truth.....a wee bit different than you believe or state.

I normally would not quote a source like Yale which happens to be a very liberal university. However some of what is there are facts that even they can not deny. I have more than just that one link and most of the dixie-crats went back to being democrats. Byrd for one.
