British torture photos faked! Official!
Well just so people who haven't heard it, I am relived to say that the reputation and professionalism of the British troops in Iraq remains unsullied.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3716151.stm This was a cruel money making hoax - and those responsible are set to pay a heavy price. I just thought it was worth mentioning. GJ |

There is no doubt people have already died as a result of this - and many more will in the future. What it says is if there was any mistreatment at all (which this appears to indicate there wasn't) it was an even smaller minority than even this small minority was alleged to have been. If you want to feed the rumour mill too, then you dererve the same level of contempt with which these hoaxers are now being treated. GJ |

The british troups are widely regarded as the most professional the world over, they are always used when possible in the peacekeeping situations, there are many stories of the scots guards and the heroics and bravery they have shown in the field of combat and in saving lives. Only a fool would say otherwise.
of course there are cases of bad behaviour from every nationality in the wars, until you are in a war you will never know the mental anguish, the pain and the noises which surround you all day, it can bring out the very worst in people, and those who still perform their duties admirably and with dignity deserve respect. we have too many people just sitting in armchairs and making judgements without facts. its the gutter press making up stories. its always been like that and it always will be. |

Well I'm not saying their angels - they are tough guys, so you can expect some rough treatment. But there is a line between rough treatment and outright brutality.
I know there have been incidents where innocent people have been killed. But you stand there while a truck is speeding towards you and refuses to stop - and then decide if they are trying to kill you or not. I don't blame the Americans or the British for these kinds of mistakes - even though sometimes they can seem hard to understand. Of course, if they weren't there in the first place it wouldn't happen. But there you go. GJ |

Well its war and this is part of the deal.Things like this will always happen in wartime no matter who welltrained people are.
The difference here is that the Bush government has ENDORSED the use of "light torture" and "sidestepping the Geneva comverntion" they have themselves set a standard with Guantanamo. They have also negelected to ACT when informed of abuse. Rumsfelds only reply when questioned by journalsts if Usa would follow the geneva convention in regards to treatment of prisoners was avoiding and he also said that certain steps aside could be tolerable. The reason for that interwiew was that to prisoners wewre beaten to death by interrogators at Bagram in Afghanistan. Finally...the Bush government was officiclly informed (unofficially they have known all the time of course)already in January by several different sources ranging from their own military to the Red cross about whatb was going on. Nothing was done. Not until the images reached the media. Thus...they are responsible. Bluelight |

Yes there are and they are investigating more than 30 deaths that has been reported as pointless killings.
Also...the images shown in media are fake but there are still testimonies saying the contrary. This is also under investigation. Still..there is a differnence in that as far as i know the British government has never hesitated on wheter or not the Geneva convention applies. The Bush government has officially stated that it does not for certain cathegories....which is of course nothing but bullshit. They have also a very loose definition on who belongs to that cathegory. They talk of .."illegal fighers" ...which is a totally new expression. That way they can put whoever they want into this cathegory and great him accordingly...something they also do. The recent releases from the Bagdad prison of hunderds and hundreds of prisoners is proof enough of this. The internationally acknowledged name for this cathegory would be "criminal" and also criminals have international legislation which deals with their treatment and the circumstances on how to trial them. The Bush government has bypassed this in order to be able to set up concentration camps all over the world in which they hold people without charges indefinitley. Guantanamo is only one of these places. Both Germany Italy Spain Britain has had large problems with terror in periods. At none of these times have they in the same manner so blatantly bypassed international laws. Terrorists have been considered and treated for what they are criminals...AND mostly the problem has been solved. The reason the Bush goverment has promoted terrorists from being scum to being "Fighters"...although illegal...is that they need an enemy. Such an enemy makes it possible to invade Iraq in order to gain strategic control over the mideast and thus the oil. In this they have given terror groups like Al Quaida....RECOGNITION....which means... They have given Bin Ladder exactly what he wanted. He is treated as the big boy he claims to be. A government that handles a terrorist issue as bad as that...does not deserve anything else than being kicked out of their seats. The Bush government breeds terrorism. Bluelight |

Good. Hats off to the British. Your decency is a true testament of the true goodness of the West and your people.
I only wish all the photos were faked. They aren't, though. And that's something we Americans will have to live with. I just hope that we can make sure it doesn't happen again, show the world that such behavior is indeed abhorrent to American values, and that we can severely, severely punish those responsible. It's been a sad few months. |
