The problem with politics and religion.
The problem is that everyone who has a view point on an issue thinks that they are right, and that every other viewpoint is wrong.
And when someone challenges that view, they feel that it is a personal attack, and then go on the offensive against the other person. This is why there are so many religious/political conflicts raging across the world Discuss.

Well, in debates, I do not take things personally. THat is how these....to put it nicely, flame wars start. I think you are right, however I often just laugh at things that are said, and just know that its only a debate online. If you let things get to you, then you will loose.
Anyways, yes, I do think that I am right, however, it is possible for me to change my mind on some things. But, for example, my political view as you said, is unmoveable. I will not change what I believe. As for religion, I am agnostic. I just "dont know". I am not saying that it is impossible for God to exist, however I do not go to church and I tend to believe science/tangible things. I do not think that the reason of all the debates around is that people are taking it personally....however I do think that effects some debates. Both in the real world, and in this forum. It is a shame, though, because it is those debaters who take things personally, and respond with personal attacks, who ruin it for the rest of the people who enjoy debating. But, lets not go off topic once again, heh. So in terms of me, no, I do not take things personally and that is not why I do the political/religous debates.

Well I don't think religion is a right-or-wrong type of issue, usually religious people think that way.
I think it's a little silly to get angry at all over something someone said on a forum to you. It's like the most impersonal form of communication, you shouldn't take it personally. Personally, I can't get offended or insulted by anything anyone says, I don't care about what people say in those cases. As for the political stuff, well if people aren't going to at least listen to what others say, then there's no point in discussing anything with them.

yes i hope there is no flaming here either…
respect other people's opinions DON'T attack the person, attack the view constructively (if you say something is BS, prove it) If someone attacks your view, don't take it personally, but defend your view constructively (again with proof) If you follow that then this place will be much more civil, and maybe you can even learn from others

but in here lies the problem it is hard to find a source that both parties agree is acceptable. Example I pull one from fox news and then everyone says find a non right wing news source. Or visa versa.

that is why you try to find as many sources as possible, to corroborate evidence and see which things are played up/suppressed

yeah but if you are talking about a cotrovertial topic like the Iraq war you will only find articles for from the right and articles against from the left. So there comes a point where sources are considered bad because they may be moderatley on one side or the other. And I am not talking about forming opinions I am talking about backing up already formed opinions.

People fight over religion because their not very bright and it's easy to whip the populace into a frenzy when God is on your side, Ala Catholisicm and all it's crusades. After all it's so much easier to kill someone when God tells you to.
