Considering the Drivers we have been getting lately I'm in no hurry. I am planning to build a new rig probably the end of next month and TBH my loyalty is waining towards the Red Team as of late and for me right now its a tough decision to make.

As much as I want to love it, Im just not impressed. I'm waiting for the next run of DX10 cards anyway, I hope next year is brighter for ATI. Then again, NV has me pissed with not releasing drivers for XP, so I'm equally bothered by that. I won't be picking up one of their cards untill I'm sure that every eight months they don't stop driver development on my card and focus solely on the next generation cards.

Not worth the $100+ over a 8800 GTS.

I'm waiting to see if driver improvements bring up the performance of the card. If that is the case, I'll buy one. Otherwise I may do the unthinkable and get an Nvidia 8800 something. Not sure which model though. (GTS or GTX)

I'm considering waiting for the 65nm refresh, with Full UDV support.

HD 2400 and HD 2600 are 65nm and have UVD. Or did you mean the R650?

I dont think they had any choice but to release it because of all the hype they put into it, but I think they should have canceled it and waited for the new shrink to 65nm because of all the negative press it created and AMD has enough on their plate trying to get cash flow

NVIDIA or bust.
the hd2900 consumes almost as much power as a GTX, performs considerably less than a gtx, in most cases is out perfromed by a cheaper card that has more memory, AND they're trying to make a new 8 pin PSU standard for gfx cards forcing us to buy new PSUs!!! |

The 2900XT needs to be aborted. We're only in the 2nd week it's not a best seeling GPU so killing it off won't be painful to the fanbase.

Meh alot can be saved with drivers and the same driver-tweaks can properly be used on a r650 model anyway.

The 2900 consumes more power than the GTX, in fact it consumes more power than the Ultra. You will know on your next pro nvidia rant

Well... I voted for the last option, I am an ATi fan, always liked their cards more than Nvidia's, but this one just sucks, it consumes 200W+ , needs a 8-pin PSU, has a loud fan and it's a pretty hot VGA.
Unless the miracle I'm waiting for is true, the drivers performance increase, it is a waste to buy it. I won't buy one even if it's more powerfull than a 8800GTS 640 with the new drivers, I'm going to wait for Crysis benchmarks before chosing a graphics card, I want one that do more than 60 fps at that game, even If I will have to wait for R700/G90. |

.and just because i may seem pro nvidia doesn't mean i'm an NVIDIOT. i just simply go for who ever has the best hardware for the best value. recently i just even bought my current ATI card, the x1950pro agp, because the 7800gs blows compared to it .

all that is stated is that 2x6pin will only limit your ability to use overdrive, nothing about temps or anything...

I don't think that the power connector has anything to do with a temperature monitoring.
Edit: Just noticed this is my post number 666.

More powerdrain than 8800GTX and performance on par with 8800GTS. And lacking UVD. Not impressed at all.

Already have an 8800GTX, why would I even think about going backwards?

Terrible card, should never have been released
I think they should have waited until they could get much better performance out of it before releasing it.. Seems to be a failure as it is, at least when comparing it to Nvidia's fastest cards. Hopefully the next iteration will be better, they need to compete better with Nvidia to bring down prices for all of us, Nvidiots and fanATIcs alike, (or people who don't care what company makes their video cards, as long as they get the best deal).

I'm an ATI fan...or was, I think I'm just sticking with whatever is faster and after many reviews Nvidia has clearly shown it won this generation. I just hope competition can occur for the two, otherwise will we be paying 800 for the next new generation of cards? *cries*
P.S. Basically what BWX said, I second that. |
