I have a 2002 laptop with a ATI Radeon 7500m with 64MB. Nothing today, but back in the day it was THE solution for gaming on a laptop. I haven't used it in over 2.5 years though since it is in storage in the UK.

Up till recently I was planning on getting a new laptop with either the Nvidia 9650 or if I could find cheap in Europe, then 8800GTS/GTXm.
After reading about the (possible) fiasco with laptop G84 and G86 core cards, ATI finaly releasing drivers with support for correct aspect scaling and ATI still being the only cards with DX10.1 support, chances are I will go for ATI solution on a laptop, once more.

GeForce 8400G in my Asus F3Sc. Surprised at how punchy it is at native resolution (1280x800). Plays Guild Wars and Counter Strike Source (and any source game really) at very playable rates even with options maxed. Overclock it from 400/400 to 500/500 and I can even enable AA and AF

Unfortunately I don't know a subnotebook that doesn't have Intel integrated graphics. I'm still waiting for VIA+NVIDIA to come up with the promised low end platform.

My wife has a GeForce 8600 in her laptop.

I got a laptop with an Intel integrated graphics. I never even tried to play on it. It does not have enough disk space (only 80 GB). It's already full without any games.

I would have chosen a laptop with a bigger HDD but I did not choose. I won that laptop in a draw. I never bothered to buy one before or after because of many reasons.

I thought I would find it annoying to use a laptop small keyboard and small monitor and that I would hate how it's always low on power and how you have to plug it in all the time to recharge and how you need to plug a mouse because the integrated one is hard to use.

I was right. I've now got it always connected to the wall and I'm using a USB keyboard, a USB mouse and a 24 inch monitor recommended by Zardon. I'm basically using it as a desktop computer. There's one thing I really like about it. It's very quiet, more than my desktop computer. I've always been looking for the most quiet pc. This is about the most quiet it can get with fan cooling.

The first laptop I used, a Dell C610, has the original Mobility Radeon. The MacBook Pro I use now has a X1600 Pro, though Apple has switched over to Nvidia graphics for that model...

BTW, though my subnotebook has integrated GMA900 graphics, I did play some games on it. Trackmania Nations actually played decently, with a suitable driver. City of Heroes suffered more from the limited RAM (512MB shared with the graphics) than the graphics themselves. It did get to about 5fps in some outdoor areas. The more annoying problem was that the driver that City of Heroes ran on didn't run Trackmania and vice versa.

System Specs

Fujitsu LifeBook N6470

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 @ 2.10 GHZ
RAM: 3.00 GB
Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 @ 1523 MB
Screen: 19" Generic PnP Monitor
OS: Duel Boot - 32 Bit Windows Vista / Windows XP

ATI powers my graphics for my laptop and has not let me down yet! I play a lot of games including World of Warcraft. I run WoW at a steady 60 FPS with all my Catalyst Control Center settings at max and the game looks great. Have not had any problems with my laptop or the dedicated graphics. I am happy that I went with Fujitsu for a laptop and the price was great for the computer specs.
