I think that this new control panel is aimed at the newer computer user. I don't like it at all and I won't be installing it again until it is the only control panel that they offer. (Let's hope that doesn't happen)

It's a SE you knew that when you bought it wasn't the best model....

ROFL to base your purchace on Doom III is insane as basing it on the fps you get in PONG... Same goes for any ment to be played game "designed" to run faster on nvidia ...

Voted.
I liked it, but it seems sluggish and operated like it had a lot of overhead going on.
And thats with a AMD 3200+ AthlonXP and a Radeon 9800 Pro.
I used it for a day or so, and removed it to go back to the old control panel.
I did notice that when I changed the skin to use the system skin instead of the bloated Windowblinds skin it moved along a little bit faster, but not responsive enough for me to warrent keeping it.

Maybe if they removed the Windowblinds feature and reduced the .NET usage, it might prove to be more responsive.

Make all the CCC's you want after that because it won't matter. What counts is what you get for your money (**the hardware**), the money it cost and the performance it delivers compared to the competition.

That's all that matters. Remember the 9700pro? Nobody cared about the drivers then because the 9700p killed the ti4600 and did it at a good price.

If ATI goes back to that business plan instead of hyped up, bloated control panels, ATI would be in a much better position.
People aren't that easily fooled, and their memory is not that short.

The X800 series are great cards, but they are expensive as hell and even if they are "as good as" the competition, they don't beat them into submission like the 9700pro did..
Amen Brother!!!! I just hope Ati is listening and does something about it!!!

What amazes me is the X800 series chip is cheaper to make than the 6800 chip, still those cards cost ~$100 more than the 6800 but it is lower in capability & speed, and how does ATI react to that? they give us the CCC...

actually doom 3 didn't play too bad if i knocked out some of the special affects. and yeah i knew it wasn't the best model but from the reviews it wasn't a bad card either. unlike some people i can't afford to buy a 400 or 500 dollar card when one comes out. i may be a computer tech as well, but i work for a library system and unfortunately we don't make as much as most techs do. my little bro who is still using an old nvidia mx card has decided to take it off my hands, so i could upgrade to little bit better card.

Well If ATI had the qunity out that they should of had the MSRP is...

$499 X800 XT PE
NA X800 XT
$399 X800 Pro
NA X700

now asumeing they had gotten the quanity out that they should of you'd be seeing prices $50 -100 less then msrp.

But as luck had it big OEM orders (they get first dibs), massive demand & pre orders, some possable problems biggest being a mass momry shortage of the chips they needed...

It looks pretty cool to me, good for people who don't really understand the settings.

Where has the individual DirectX and OpenGL settings gone? There's hardly anything under API specific.

Definitely a step in the right direction anyhow
