Yes of course they should realese a AGP version of it!! I belive it's going to take at least 1 year until most people have a PCI-E Mainboard.

Simply,

They likely won't make them unless they can make money on them. If we don't show our care for ATI (with our feedback, money, anything that has worth to them), ATI won't, for long, be able to afford to care for us by designing and making great video cards.

The Golden Rule works - everywhere, unless ignored or violated.

NO, this isn't really my first post, but certainly my first in a long long time. Sure, a lot of people, primarily the enthusiast types that frequent sites like this, would like to see everything available for their favorite platform, whatever that platform should be.

For years I've heard nothing but 'tech guys' opining for 'new tech' and faster comps with all the capabilities we've been promised for years and years.

Here we are on the doorstep of one such long awaited technology, PCI-Express and we're whining that new products are being developed for it?

"If you build it, they will come." The PCI-E platform needs attractive mainstream parts to attract the mainstream market. So far there's no 'killer app' for PCI-Express and i'm not saying that the X700 fills that void but it's certainly a quality part and one that will help legitimize the new platform.

I think its just a marketing scam to get use to REBUY all our gear ONCE AGAIN to fill their pockets with money. We'll need a new mobo and card and for what?.. I don't see that there is any improvement with PCI-Express. In fact I've read that its slower?! My under used 8x AGP isn't even getting taxed as it is.. what a joke.

its not really slower.

Though from all of the benchmarks I've seen so far it does appear to possibly be slightly slower MAYBE! But its hard to tell since you cant get identical testbeds.

The deal is that PCIe has MUCH GREATER BANDWIDTH! Now I realize that nothing uses it yet and that is part of the reason why I think this is a load of garbage...however...ATI released its highest clocked card for AGP ONLY. X800XT PE is not available for PCIe at the moment(correct me if im wrong) So they obviously know who their top market is right now.

I agree with most people on this - PCI-E still isn't mainstream, many mobos don't have it. I would like to see X700 AGP, and if ATI makes it, I will go for that certainly.

I really think it would be a great performing card for the money - an excellent value, and a good match with any P4 Northwood or Athlon XP Thoroughbred or better CPU...

I also think an AGP form would be great...I and a number of my clients won't need to move to PCI-E for a while...but we do like good graphics at an affordable price.

Given that pci-express doesn't have the kind of market penetration that agp enjoys yet and probably wont have for a long while either, I think an agp version is necessary.

The people who are going to buy this are the ones who cant afford to go the pci-e route just yet and would rather spend the money on a new affordable card than having to save up and shell out even more money to upgrade the rest of their pc.

In comparison those folks who do spend the money and upgrade their mobo, cpu, ram in one go are more likely to be buying the higher spec, x800 cards.

Basically, it comes down to this: I'm looking for a mid-range upgrade for my Radeon 9700 Pro, and I know that Nvidia is coming out with an AGP version of the 6600. So unless ATI gets their act together and releases an AGP version of the X700, I'm going to buy the 6600. I would rather buy the X700, but if I can't, I can't, and that's ATI's fault.

??? There are Striders coming, and I NEED a new CARRRRDDDDD!

And that's fair enough; it's not about being fanboyz for ATI. It's about getting the best bang for the buck for most of us (I have a 9600xt and i love it), but as said earlier, with games like HL2 and Stalker coming out, I want to upgrade. I can't afford to upgrade the backbone of my system just to embrace pci xpress (the performance improvement doesn't warrant it) but a new Gpu card is the best option - soooo..... who's selling the best performance/pricepoint AGP card right now?

And - no - I don't want to "upgrade" to a 9800; I'd like to move up a generation; as Zardon alluded to (sorry; to lazy to grab the quote! ) the 700 has stuff for today's games - the 9800 is sooo 12 months ago!

In closing;ATI make great stuff, continue to improve and support what they already have out, and do seem to really listen to their customers,so I feel that they really have to give us AGP'ers ( ) a bit of break - stick by us, we will CONTINUE to stick by you.

PS - please don't take this the wrong way ATI; you know I really love you

I am still riding my 8500 and was looking at the 9800 Pro as my next card...I haven't seen any benchmark comparisons, but it could be an option...

there are many benchmark comparissions (cant think of any at the moment lol) and those all say x700xt is a better option than the 9800pro/xt this days, and with more features (well just a couple lol)

I just care bout AGP. PCIe's gonna tear up AGP just like when PCI first killed off ISA way back in the 90s. I welcome change, but not just in any plane *puts hands in pockets, feels no money* . But, when it finally catches on, i believe PCIe's gonna cause a gaming revolution which we will all benefit from. ^_^

the extra bandwidth is quite obviously going to make a difference someday. But that day is not TOday.

for now, pushing everyone to upgrade isnt helping anything, especially when even the x800XT PE isnt using the full capabilities of the AGP 8X(though its getting close)

well, also if u take in count that nVIDIA already promised 6600gt agp8x cards then ati need to release their agp cards as well, i mean yeah 9800pro/xt is still a good card, but is so old now that people will of course buy the new stuff, and if ati doesnt release x700 agp cards? well, im sorry ATI but i guess this time ill be getting 6600gt card lol i hope that doesnt happen anyhow lol

edit: 4900 votes out of 6314 saying go for x700agp cards, that has to count for somethen lol

btw im not reading all these posts probably wont even read or reply to this one lol

anyways, i would have to say since this x700 is better than the 9800xt that its a great idea to get... but what flavor. well that depends on my upgrade purchases.

truthfully i would like to upgrade to a higher end grfx card for this computer, but its still limited by the CPU, and this system is old, tho it still is better than most people's computers, and still plays games better than most.... hell i would still use it if i got a new one.

but truthfully im going to get a new AMD64 system and im thinking that PCI express is the way to go, probably the new nforce, mabe via.

so i would have to say that the card i would choose would be the PCI-express flavor one based on that factor. but i wouldnt buy the card before any other hardware.
so im waiting for the amd boards to go retail. the review boards i have seen are not as good as u might expect tho, those are via chipsets mabe retail ones will be better.

x700XT is definatly going to be a nice midrange card at a nice price. i would still like to see an AGP version tho - cause i do belive their will be new motherboards with both AGP and pci express grfx slots. hint hint.

there was one already. actually it was called an "AGPe" slot.

AGP doesnt belong in a PCIe board. they just dont work togeather.
