Not impressed. Not with the kind of claims ATI has been making vs. real world values. Waiting to see what will happen with R5s however.

Not impressed...yet. If they raise the 60Hz @ 1600X1200 limitations and with the X1800's im sure it will rock.

Think it's not as well implemented as NV. But maybe R520 Crossfire will rock?

Nice review - liked that you tried with lots of different games...

The underlying technology is obviously working well, and ATI has a solid platform (mainboard chipset) to use the cards, but I wasn't astounded because of the present price/performance against their competition (equal, no better...) and I really had expected them to be able to implement the technology. ATI hopefully will take the price/performance lead with their next revision of GPU, which, with Avivo technology and Crossfire tech across different cards available, should be much more impressive and flexible.

i didn't even know crossfire was even available. Where i work, we hardly carry any ATI cards, and when we do, most of them are low to mid range cards. I haven't seen any other retailer or online store carry the crossfire cards.

and the review posted by dsdsdk, at first i was unimpressed with the comparing results between the x850xt crossfire and the 7800gtx in SLI, because the GTXs were performing better than the x850. Then i remembered that it wasn't the r520 . So now i'm a little more hopeful .

Not impressed. Will be waiting for the "next" gen. Hopefully it is single slot, and works with my current mobo. AGP is all I need.

AGP is dead dude. both nVidia and ATI have said that they will not make their G70 (nVidia) and their R520 (ATI) cores in an AGP format.

Not impressed. Nvidia must be breaking open the champaigne bottles right about now as it's obvious they have the 2005 product cycle all to themselves. Hard bein a ATI fanboi these days

Eh, yeah, well, I'm still one too - unless Nvidia just blows 'em away (highly doubtful) - ATI will get it going here in the next month or two...

Doubtfull the X1800 series will be less than stellar performers. I guess ATI had to start somewhere with Crossfire. keeping finger crossed

Impressed, but not that much.. The IQ is awesome, amazing even, but the 60hz limit is like shooting themselves in the foot. If I had the cash, I would not be buying yet. I think in 6 months people will be singing a different tune.

Agreed, I just ordered my parts for my computer today from Newegg so it will probably get here early weekend. Too bad ATI waited so long. What they have better be nothing short of amazing or they are screwed. I hope for their sakes it is.

I thought it would have been cool if they tried to beat the best SLI systems with single card solutions.. (dual core maybe?) I don't think it is impossible, and they could charge a premium. Too bad they didn't go with their first instincts.

that would have been a better solution. who would want to pay $1,200~$1,300 in video cards for a max of 30% increase in performance regardless of it being ATI or nVidia?

yeah imagine this.. ATI focusing their efforts to put out a single card solution that even approaches the GTX SLI's performance. Even if they had to put "Crossfire on one card" or something like that, it would be cool as hell, and even if it didn't beat the SLI, all it would have to do it come close and cost less than 2 GTX's..

Plus without focusing on all the dual card stuff, (mobo technology, etc) maybe it could have been done? Who knows? Just a thought, it would have been really cool, and just like ATI to do something like that.

I don't know, I said impressed, but I'm not buying it yet.

In the DH tests it beat a 6800Ultra SLI setup, and to me that's what it's supposed to do. It should beat a single of the next generation above it (7800GT/X) and match/beat a dual card solution of it's rival (6800Ultra)

Think about it, the x850xt was never supposed to be better than the 7800 series, so why would two of them beat two 7800's?

One thing I didn't like about the DH benchy was that the systems weren't identical, so that throws some things off.

Not impressed...but then, for new hardware, it seems Nvidia has led the way again.....sigh.
Ati should make fewer comprimises when they create a new product...
I wouldnt really complain, but my loyalty is challenged by a so so product.
Allan and Stewarts review is exhaustive and informative....
I wonder how ATI will hype this one....or if they will at all...
this product may become an " also ran" when they finally figure out that SLI was a flash in the pan sort of VPU technology and they put it all back on a single card again...
I mean come on people......they can put all the power of both products on a single card...
they can put a man on the moon cant they?

CDsdontburn, try looking through the review again, and this time compare single 7800gtx vs X850 CF.

i wonder if they even changed SFR/AFR mode when in SLI for the different games..

Well, isn't that what Nvidia did with the 7800GTX, they offered a card that is almost better than 2 6800 ultra SLI and 2 x850 crossfire. I think the 7800GTX is truelly awsome card that could be compared to the 9800 of its day. I mean its like most of you look at the stats and say, meh thats not bad. Double the power of 6800 series, that is more than ok. They obviously did something right. I would like to see more praise on the 7800GTX because I believe it truelly deserves it and have you ever seen Nvidia or ATI jump to their next series with almost double performance of the previous series highest card. I would just like to see more praise, it almost seems like the 7800GTX is ignored. I'm just wondering if people can see the same benchmarks I do. Maybe its because I'm used to a crappy comp.

I dunno but I'm just goin to applaud Nvidia with their engineering when ATI shows up with their card I will give them their applaus.
