I'm game for anything up to about $400....or even $450 if it's unique in performance, cooling design, and comes with a few games/software I like.

PS - those prices include standard 3 day FedEx shipping, as my 6800GT by XFX was about the top dollar I'll go for and it shipped for $415

I am going to be a hypocrit on this one and say they cost too much. i just paiod an ungoddly amount IMO, but I still think they cost too damn much. When you can buy a whole console for the price of one GFX card, they are too expensive. I am actually surprised they can still compete with the consoles at all anymore, and will be surprised if they can continue with the consoles getting better and serving more of a purpose than just games.

Previously I would never spend much on a card. In the past couple years I've owned, in this order, a Radeon 9200, Radeon 9500 Pro, and now a Radeon X700 Pro.

However, I make more money now, so I believe I'm gonna have to purchase an X1800 XL. It's just such a badass card.

I never spend more than 240euro's for a videocard. And at the moment I wouldn't spend more than that on one either. After a year a 500euro card is only worth 200, if it isn't less, so I rather buy a card that has been on the market for a while and dropped in price than buy the best there is and see the same card for half of the price 1/2-1year later.

200-399$ canadian is the most i will pay for a card ... i have the money to pay more but just find that they push a little too far ... look at the XboX360, ATI 48pipelines ( more powerful that the X1800XT ), DVD-ROM, HardDrive, 3 x 3.0Ghz P4 cpu, ect... will cost 500$ canadian !!!! A x1800XT will cost around 650$ canadian alone !!!! Damn, someone must be laughing hard at us !

I definately think that graphics cards are overpriced. I paid probably about $400 total for my two 6600GT's and they were easier to justify because I could buy one at a time. I'm considering buying a 7800GT and I'm seriously having a hard time justifing the 375 for one of those. And once I justifiy it, my wife prob won't.

I'd like to see the prices come down some. I don't see any problem with brand new top of the line cards being expensive, but personally I think 500+ is just rediculous!

Master Shake is on a distinguished road

I paid almost $400 for my 6800gt and then a few month later a 7800gt was cheaper than that...

The damn thing dropped $100 two weeks after I bought it. These things are WAY overpriced. It would be different if they were at least close to top of the line for a year or more. Instead, you buy a high-end card and then it's only mid-range within six months. They just keep coming out with new games that kill your card. If they had longer lives I think that the cost could be justified. I really wish programmers would make their stuff more efficient rather than really on faster hardware to run their bloated buggy software.

$200-$399 <-- I voted that... but I really don't think they are overpriced.. The market will dictate the price of anything as long as no one has a monopoly..

I Won't pay over 300 because I just don't have the money to throw around like that right now.. If I had the money, and wanted a better card and had to pay 450 bucks to get it, then I would pay it..

The main problem with them is that they go down in value faster than anything I can think of.. You pay 550 bucks for a card now, and in a year it may only be worth 250 or less. It seems almost a waste.

Well, actually, I'd say that there is a monopoly: we've got two manufacturers both holding a nice share of the market, completely controling it, and dictating the prices together. This way, they are playing it safe, preventing big market shifts, and still both of them make a nice profit.

I voted $199 as my current card costed me 170 euros, but I'm not likely to make even such a "humble" purchace any time soon. If i had more money, I'd probably be more "generous", but never $400+.

I think they are in competition with each other.. and it is a cut throat business. I doubt very highly they are conspiring together to control prices.

monopoly- (mono means one, not two)

I just don't think that is happening, I think it is expensive to design and produce cutting edge technology, and the price of the products reflect that.

$200-$399. (personally, $300 is my limit)

Regardless of what video card I get, it will be obsolete in 1-3 years. So, I'm not paying the highest price for "cutting edge". I look for "bang for the buck" when I choose my VPUs.

My 9800 is serving me fine for the moment. I'm gonna push it for all the time it's got left. I'll choose a $300 or less card (whatever that might be) when the 9800 can't cut it anymore.

I figure that means changing the motherboard at the very least. It's gonna be awhile before I upgrade......

You would be very happy with an x800xl AGP.. I have the same mindset you do about this, and I got that card and I couldn't be happier with it.

£300 which equates to roughly $533US is my limit.

the most expensive X1800XT on overclockers.co.uk is £469 thats a wallet busting $834US. Gotta be seriously loaded and have an understanding wife (yeah right!) to get one of these.
