I talk too much and need to post
Well,
We have a couple of songs posted up at Motagator. The first one up there "Pretty Saro", was not recorded by me, nor did I play on it. It was done in the studio of Glenn Helgesen a few years back-all analog. My wife was working on a different song which wasn't working and was warming up her voice and playing guitar to this song, "Pretty Saro", when the owner/engineer of the studio said "Hold on there a minute", he grabbed his slide guitar and they recorded it. I copied it from cassette to make the MP3. The other short song "Guitar Stuff Kel HM-1" was something I played to try out my new condenser mic. My wife just EQd the guitar on the Behringer mixer and then we recorded it using an SB0090, kX and Kristal. We didn't use any other effects. Someday I'll come up with a middle and ending part for it. http://www.motagator.net/bands/69/ Thanks for listening. |

Emily has a great ear for eq 'ing cause your guitar sounds great. What make is it?
That must be a good mic, the clarity is super. Nicely played also. She has the ideal voice for that 1st song. Sounds Celtic, nice. Pierre |

Nice stuff, the guitar sounds very good and I like the tune because it is very relaxing and it has a mood very reminiscent to Granchester Meadows by Pink Floyd (at least for me).

Pierre & Tiger,
Thanks for listening. The mic is a Kel HM-1. We had been doing all our vocal recording with Shure SM-58s but they didn't seem to complement my wife's voice much so after searching around the Net for a while I found the HM-1. It was on a promotional price of $69 U.S until Jan 1. I think it has probably gone back up to $99 U.S. The guitar is a Taylor 420, which I bought 10 years ago or so. http://www.kelaudio.com if you want to check it out. Someone else mentioned a Celtic feel to her voice also. I will have to relisten to Granchester Meadows. Thanks again Last edited by Doug W; Jan 8, 2005 at 05:50 AM. |

Sounding great! It sounds like it has Irish folk influence. Ever hear the show "thistle and shamrock" on NPR? this song is ready for that show.

Thanks Toad,
I have heard "Thistle and Shamrock", never thought about submitting anything. My wife has Irish ancestry but that side of her family came over on the boat a few generations ago. Now on another matter, you have to put your picture back up the website. My wife thinks she mortally wounded you and is feeling guilty. Thanks, Doug |

Hey Doug W,
I listened to both songs and was very up lifted by the Celtic style and beautiful vocal in "Pretty Saro". My wife, who does most the vocal for our group was also very impressed. She does'nt often take to something this fast! I thought your guitar technique, on the second song, was outstanding. So was the eq and recording. Nice to hear someone play that style instead of the usual blues box grind most of the WV guitar pickers seem to use. We would like to hear more of your work! Very Nice. buvoltz |
