Photo Editting Program

Are there any good photo editting programs (not sure if they're called that) like Photoshop which are free? My photoshop trial ran out awhile ago, I can't get it again and I need another program to do stuff like that. So please tell me of a good program which is free, thanks in advance.

Maybe there is more, but these two are the only ones I know of.

GIMP is opensource/free and has many features.

I like gimp and paint.net. Paint.net seems simple to use at least to me, but I am not a big editor of photos just red eye and levels which is what I use it for. Just my 2cents.

It's unfortunate that the Windows port of Gimpshop seems to be the poor relation, languishing at 2.2.8.

Some of the tweaks can be applied seperately, such as using the "deweirdifier" pluging to arrange the Gimp windows as MS-style MDI rather than X-Windows style free. Looks like the plugin is an endangered one, maybe it hasn't been updated for the later versions?
