Looking for driver developers

Hello,

I apologize in advance if this is in the incorrect section of your forum for this type of a post. I am new here, and did my best to find an appropriate place to post.

I am a developer working on a new operating system. I am in charge of graphics, so I apologize for my lack of driver development technical knowledge.

We are looking for a few developers with driver development experience. We recently posted an advertisement for this position on our website, and here is the text from it:

Quote:
SkyOS is currently seeking driver developers for SkyOS. Interested applicants should fit the following criteria:

- Known programming languages: C
- Experience: Detailed knowledge of Low-Level programming, previous experience writing drivers
- 10-20 hours per week
- Ability to work well both with a team and individually

If you are interested in becoming a driver developer for SkyOS, and meet the above requirements, please send an e-mail expressing your interest.
So as the post said, if you are interested in writing drivers for our operating system, please contact us as soon as possible. You can contact us by visiting our website , or by e-mailing me.

I'm not sure that you'll find many device-level coders here. I've written a smartcard driver in Visual Basic though

Why don't you simply port the drivers from XFree86?

Nice screens. Could you give a run-down on the pro's and con's of SkyOS over Windows, Linux or *BSD ?

Well, to keep it brief, SkyOS is easier to use than Linux, and more open than Windows.

Program installation in SkyOS is as easy as double-clicking on a .zip file and telling it to install.

As far as Windows goes, there are a few advantages. First would be price. SkyOS will cost $30. Windows costs $200. You might make the argument that Windows costs nothing because it generally comes with a new computer. But what about when you need to upgrade? Unless you buy a new computer, you will have to pay $110, just for the upgrade. The full version costs over $200.

SkyOS also does not have any creepy protection schemes, such as using it only on one computer and registering online.

SkyOS has a file system called "SkyFS", which is based on the OpenBFS (which in turn is based on the BFS from BeOS). It is a 64-bit journaling file system.

Finally, in Windows, if for some reason you have to re-install, uaually all of your programs are gone. You have to re-install all of them. That isn't the case with SkyOS.

There are many other pro's about SkyOS, too many for me to list here. If you are interested, I highly suggest you take a visit to our website and take a look around, or register and ask on the forums.

Does it have a Unix-like environemnt? Is it POSIX compliant? The graphics are pretty, but it would nice to see a Unix-esque design under the exterior.

You'd have to explain "Unix-like" to me a bit more before I could give a good answer.

It is not 100% POSIX compliant, but very close.

I'll do my best to answer your questions, but remember, I am not really on the "technical" part of the team. If you have any in-depth, fancy programming questions, you'd be better off asking them on the forums. But I know that if you're not that interested it is a pain, so I will do my best to help answer questions here.

If any user can do that then ....... yikes! Sounds like a security risk to me.

Quite true, though beyond3d would be a better bet...many qualified people there.

I visited Beyond3D, and posted the same message there. Thanks for the tip.
