I'm writing my own forum!

Yeah, you guys can check out my progress if you want, here at http://www.hardwareheaven.com/forum-x.

It's called Forum-X, and it is completely hand coded in XHTML 1.0 Strict, PHP, and MySQL. Still needs some work, and after I get done with it, then i'll have to decide what to do with it, but until then give me some feedback, and info on what you'd like to be added if I decided to sell it for like 10-15 bucks or so.

Any feedback would really be appreciated.

I hope this will help me to work with DP2 when it comes out! (Also coded in XHTML 1.0 Strict).

I had started the forum in XHTML 1.1, but since the "name" attribute is decapitated, in favour of the "id" attrib, PHP doesn't seem to like that, so I had to fall back on XHTML 1.0 Strict.

All of it validates as Valid XHTML1.0 Strict, but IE5 has some problems viewing it because it doesn't understand the CSS Attrib "white-space: nowrap". Works fine in Mozilla/IE6/NS6 though, so people can upgrade if they want to view it :P.

Again, any feedback would really be appreciated, please post it on the Forum-X board or in this thread. Thanks.

Also note that the forum isn't complete, so it is missing a few common functions still.

Erm, PHP doesn't care what version of xHTML you wanna use.
Post a sample of the "id" problem and I'll resolve it (my PHP code is xHTML 1.1 Strict

Actually I guess I worded it wrong, its more an IE5.x error, sorry. (BTW, there is not Strict/Transitional/Frameset for 1.1, its all Strict style -- But you probably already knew that

)

Well work has signifigantly slowed down on it, but I am thinking probably a month or 2, i think. (Work will continue after that as well), and I am also planning on a $15 USD price on it. (I think, but I may go with $10)

Update:

I've started over from scratch, i've learned a ton since i originally started writing forum-x. Queries will be down by about 4x, i am writing a template system for it, as well as better multiple style sets.

And I am also doing it in XHTML 1.1 this time.

The database also uses prefixes on table names, so **theoretically** you could run a lot more than 1 forum on the same database. (Its useful for testing on a server which only allows 1 database -- default prefix is 'fx_'.)

I am contemplating including a news posting section. I dont know yet, but the news posting package i wrote for the forum upgrade could be adapted into this package.

In any case, work has once again started, and it will be underway for a while. After i get a usable version finished I will upload it to the DH server.

(I am also adding subscribed threads, and a bunch of other options)

That was the old Forum-X anyways. The new one hasn't been available to the public yet.
