Forum setup help?

Hey guys, just need some help with setting up a forum on a web server I'm running on an extra computer at my house. Its an older system and for the time being I'm running win98.

The server is running Xitami web server right now, although when I get some free time I'm going to switch to apache now that I have a bit more understanding of setting up and running the server.

The problem I'm running into is all the stuff with the forum software about setting up a database, either mySQL, MS SQL, Access, whatever it may be. I just don't know what to do at this point, I have, although I don't use and haven't used Access.

The manuals for all the software is no help as they are all geared towards setting up the forums with hosted accounts, and there they just say create DB. So what I need from someone, which will be greatly appreciated, is advice on what I need to run the forum software in terms of DB management.

Do I need to have some DB software installed on the server? if so which?
Or do I just need to create a DB file and upload it to my server?

Please help me out here guys.

Thanks

Hi,

A great forum software is PHPBB which is free, have a great support forum in different languages
It great software and i'm sure you will be able to find a good guide there, but basically what you need is a web server and most practically a SQL server (on the same machine ofcourse)
MySql is free like Apache and pretty easy.

Once you have MySql running installation of PHPBB is peanuts. really.
