OCZ Technology

I'm not sure if this belongs here but I figure I'd offer up some kudos to the folks at OCZ and to hopefully send some people their way who may be looking at buying some memory or a power supply while at the same time reassuring consumers that there are still companies out there that are not solely in it for the almighty dollar.

In September 2007 I bought a power supply. Two weeks ago it died and I found that the invoice was not where I put it. It must have gotten misplaced during the move to our new apartment.

I contacted OCZ technical support, after doing all of the troubleshooting of course. They were told straight up that I did not have the invoice but Steve over at the OCZ forums said to send it anyway.

2 days after it was received a refurbished PSU of the same type was on it's way back to me, which I just received today. It fires up just as good as the first day I bought the original.

This isn't the first time I was left impressed. I was having problems with a new memory kit and received support on the forums on the weekend.

It's that kind of customer service that will keep me buying OCZ in one form or another. By making an exception to processes that has been put in place to help them remain profitable and by going that extra mile when most simply want to go back to bed they will get by business for many years to come, make more money than I am sure the replacement PSU and shipping cost and also get nothing but high praise from me.

Word of mouth advertising is the best form of advertising hands down.

Re: OCZ Technology

While i have yet to have a OCZ PSU give me a single hint of issues.... the failure rate on the memory has gotten so out of hand i had to stop buying it because it tipped the 50% failure rate within a short period of time.

Most likely caused by the poor shipping conditions or how it's packed, i don't know, but i shouldn't have to order 3 and hope that at least 1 pair work....

Re: OCZ Technology

The PSU that went south is the first piece of OCZ hardware that I have owned that has given me any trouble. I have owned one of their heatsinks, 3 memory kits and two power supplies.

Re: OCZ Technology

Thanks for the link, Optix!

I'm currently in the market for a budget gaming mouse and the OCZ Eclipse and Behemoth seem the perfect! Except reading through various user feedback on the net, the durability is highly suspect.

Any OCZ mice users here?

Re: OCZ Technology

didn't even know they made mice.
I have owned a PSU and memory by the company and can only say I was very pleased with their performance.
The lack of quality Judas is describing is something I have not recognized.

Re: OCZ Technology

i have had nothing but trouble with my OCZ ram. I have RMA'd 2 sets at my cost for shipping. and they still give me errors and lockups in memtest! I'm done with OCZ. I wil NOT be purchasing another OCZ product again. I'd advise the same until some quality issues are worked out...or until someone buys them out and restructures.

Re: OCZ Technology

you can say that about their ram, i'd have no quarms..

but generalizing their entire line of products.... not exactly a great idea imo

Re: OCZ Technology

i had bought an OCZ power supply. it worked fine for a week. I sent it back in for an RMA. The replacement lasted a month. so instead of spending more of my money for the same PSU, i made a very large firecracker and stuffed it inside, lit fuse, and ran. as for the OCZ ram i've struggled with, and still am to this day...after my new build i will start a thread/poll "How to obliterate troublesome ram". so i'm not generalizing, i am voicing my opinion from personal experience

Re: OCZ Technology

FWIW, I'm running OCZ DDR2 1066 [8500] Gold Edition RAM (4x2 GB in Dual Channel) and have no issues with it.

Here's a link to what I have.... (but I did NOT pay this much for mine. I got mine off the shelf for $55 per two sticks.)

Amazon.com: OCZ OCZ2G10664GK 4GB 1066MHz PC2-8500 Gold Edition Dual Channel DDR2 Kit: Electronics

What I have NOT been able to do successfully on my system is to actually run this RAM at 1066 MHz. As long as it's set to 800 MHz, it works flawlessly. I've tried upping the voltage and every other conceivable adjustment I can think of....without success. But, at 800 MHz, I can run it at lower CAS latency settings.

As long as this RAM holds up, I won't be buying anymore DDR2. I'll plan to upgrade sometime near the end of the year and will need DDR3 at that time.

Re: OCZ Technology

so they don't run at spec. the ones i have are supposed to run 1333. but i get just as many errors @ 1066 before adjusting timing to recommended 6 6 6 20 2t(for 1333) i've tried upping the voltage, lowering the voltage, tightening timings, loosening timings lettings asus choose automatically... aside from another RMA i have lowered my multiplier and raised FSB and seem to get less lockups. but it's still hard to play a game when it stops responding. i will commend OCZ on two things. Their customer support is friendly, and they try to be helpful. Their lifetime warranty is a plus too. But for my next build I think I'm gonna go with Corsair.

Re: OCZ Technology

RAM is often sold with considerable overlocked reference values, so these issues aren't that rare. Some companies seem to leave a larger margin for stability than others though.

Re: OCZ Technology

when I had some issue with my ram, I posted on their forum and had an answer to it fairly quickly. They don't make a scene about rma or anything either.
But they could tighten the margins a little bit at production.

Re: OCZ Technology

IMO they seem a pretty quick to issue RMA almost as if they KNOW! But they've been throwing 4 GB kits at me, and i'm about to send this set in also. same story. one stick tests out just dandy in all four slots using memtest86. last night i tested one stick in each slot for two hours each, no errors. i left it in and running overnight...11 hours and 33+ passes later 0 errors. i replaced with the other stick error test 3 of pass 0! i swapped slots and each time within 2-5 tests of pass 0, i get errors. if i wanted to sink more money into this rig, i could buy diff ram and hold off on new build. but i'm at the point that i'm over it and just want to move on.
