Amazon.com - How Dependable?
I ordered an item two days ago from them. The status still shows as "Shipping Soon."
Has anyone here ordered things from Amazon.com? And, was your experience good or bad? |

Re: Amazon.com - How Dependable?
I have never had a problem with Amazon UK... Even with the Free P&P options selected (Where available) every order i have made was either delivered within one day to spare..
EDIT:One or two occasions i have had no choice to pay p&P because its out of Amazon's control... Due to the item coming from a smaller company via Amazon..And still never had an issue with delivery. You may just need to look if it's direct from Amazon... But as for the delay it my be an external supplier. Last edited by MIG-31; Oct 29, 2010 at 05:04 PM. |

Re: Amazon.com - How Dependable?
I've never had a problem with the UK branch either, however they now seem to defer sales to smaller companies. Kinda like having a shop on eBay, small companies can market their products through Amazon. it usually says shipping via pc-sales and Supplies, Sort of thing. So sometimes you're not really dealing with Amazon's stores and this is where problems can be introduced.

Re: Amazon.com - How Dependable?
Thanks.
I'll keep you posted. I didn't use any special order to expedite delivery and selected to use the free delivery option. Delivery isn't due until sometime between Nov 2 - 8. So, the due date isn't the issue. I just have a problem grasping why an order will sit for a few days rather than getting the shipping done ASAP. (Although, "ASAP" may be 2 - 3 days.) But, this order is such a small item it shouldn't require any special packaging. It's just one of those DP adapters. EDIT: Just checked again. Still "Shipping Soon" and beneath the status is: Sold by Amazon.com LLC. So, does the indicate it's coming directly from Amazon?

i've received free super saving shipping and i was blown away the last order i placed when it received it in 2 days... either way... the longest i've waited for them to confirm and start shipping was 3 days... after which i received it in 8 days... all by post mind you.... not a single thing has been dilivered ever...

Judas, do you want to re-read your last phrase there? I don't think that was what you meant.

Re: Amazon.com - How Dependable?
I can't tell you how much this bugs me. But, the order was placed on 10/27 and it's still in the "Shipping Soon" category late on a Friday night. So, at this rate, it seems it won't actually get shipped out until Monday, 11/1 now.
If they can't do any better than this, they stand to lose a customer on his very first order from them. |

Re: Amazon.com - How Dependable?
How about this - you don't even look at the shipping status until the last day predicted for the package to be delivered(Nov 8). If it isn't delivered by that date, you may so complain - until then, have faith. It may be eclectic and weird, but Amazon has pretty good shipping.

And, since it's such a small item that doesn't require any real special handling, why would they sit on it for a few days rather than go ahead and get it out the door? I'm sure they do shipping every business day and not just select days of the week. As far as having faith: I ordered an item from another vendor and it never did come after several MONTHS. And then it took even more months to get my money refunded. Since this is my very first order from Amazon, I don't have anything to base having faith upon...other than the experiences of others who have dealt with them. Anyway, I really don't expect any update on the shipping status over the weekend. I'll be pleasantly surprised if there is any....and I'll be happy to post the update here if that happens. |

Re: Amazon.com - How Dependable?
Do let us know (: And all I meant was - go by the latest possible expected date. Anything earlier than that is a job well done, imo.

Re: Amazon.com - How Dependable?
OK...FINALLY!
Just an hour ago the status is now updated to Shipped. EDIT: OK...this is getting down-right frustrating!! I ordered the MINI-DisplayPort adapter and they are sending a FULL SIZE DISPLAYPORT adapter that will be completely useless to me! I know full well that I ordered the MINI DISPLAYPORT after selecting its image and proceeding to the checkout from there. I've already processed a return and replacement order. I wonder now just how long it will take to get this all straightened out? EDIT2: I've been able to exchange some emails with Customer Support and it looks like we have things worked out now. It will just take a bit longer now to get the correct adapter. I am VERY surprised and PLEASED that there are support personnel available apparently 24-hours/7 days. I really didn't expect any response until Monday but it's been a very pleasant surprise to get this worked out over night and on a weekend no less.

Re: Amazon.com - How Dependable?
I always take those shipping status eh status with a cup half full.
While I haven't used the American Amazon, the UK (and the French apparently since they send most of the things from there) are seriously quick to send things to Greece. We are talking about 2-3 days top and that is with the cheapest options for shipping. There were times (although it happens more often with play.com ) when the status wasn't not updated on time and while it was "packing" I was opening the box lol. Still, good thing you were being worried for nothing with this since you might have missed the error on their behalf. Which is kinda funny. Since you haven't posted anything else, I guess there were no problems with the delivery.

Re: Amazon.com - How Dependable?
Yes, my last EDIT indicated that we had gotten things worked out. The correct adapter did arrive without further problems in the SHIPPING and DELIVERY.
But, the adapter did NOT work. I'm done with ACCELL adapters of any kind. Amazon took back the faulty adapter and I've gone a different direction now. I'm expecting a Sapphire adapter and hoping it works. This will be an Active adapter to DVI. Currently, I'm using a DP->VGA adapter and it's working "OK" for now. |

Re: Amazon.com - How Dependable?
Little update on this with Amazon.
I'm actually very pleased with them and will be doing future business with them as well. This last order, though, threw me a curve. Here's what happened: I place the order and the confirmation for shipment stated that USPS would be handling the shipping. (For those outside the USA, that's the U.S. Postal Service.) They gave me a tracking number. But, when I put the tracking number into the USPS Tracking option online I was told that the item could not be tracked there and to contact the originator of the order. Well, to make a long story short, after 3 days -- due to the weekend -- I checked back via my Amazon account and discovered that the item had arrived at the FEDEX depot in downtown Atlanta! So, I took that tracking number and put it in the FEDEX Tracking online and, THERE IT WAS! ????? Then, the confusion got even muddier when, later yesterday (Monday) I checked for delivery and found that it had arrived at the POST OFFICE near the delivery address. Delivery, then, was handled by USPS, BUT, the transport from the supplier to the Post Office was handled by FEDEX. My head is still swimming. BUT, the item has arrived and in good condition, too. |

Re: Amazon.com - How Dependable?
I've ordered from Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk (and the German one, too, once or twice) mostly shipped internationally and occasionally to the US and UK, and most of my experience is very positive.
Once or twice I had a product which had very long availability time and never arrived. Once I got a completely wrong book after a long wait. But support has always been good, and for international shipments I wasn't even asked to return wrong or duplicate products. |

Re: Amazon.com - How Dependable?
I don't shop Amazon much however the wife does and has done a large portion of x-mas shopping from them the last three years with little to no problems what so ever. We've gotten everything from laptop bags to the kids bike and a number of small things in between and she's been doing it again this year so far. She's been very pleased and what makes her happy, makes me happy.
