EVGA

I applied for the EVGA step-up program recently (couldn't resist the temptation of two 570s for less than the price of one) and got a confirmation today.

The e-mail came through, completely authentic-looking; addressee was suffixed as @evga.com, website links were evga.com, the website says that it's pending payment but I'm still a bit dubious about it.
The address of the office is based Germany (which, as the company uses Euros in Europe is entirely probable) and the e-mail sender is a named person - that I can deal with. The thing that makes me dubious is the fact that the payment method is bank transfer. The name on the account is EVGA GmbH (don't know what the latter part means).

Has anyone had any experience with the EVGA step-up program or can anyone vouch for the authenticity?

Re: EVGA

i have an evga geforce 7800GS AGP here, AGPs final hurrah. It was a competition card from DH won by member BWX. Since he had already moved to pcie i purchased it from him.

the packing slip/invoice was with it and the address on it is EVGA GmbH from Germany.

Re: EVGA

That'll do. Everything else is pretty hard to forge, especially if they get my name and change the status on the EVGA website.
Looks like I'll be running two 570s in SLI for the new year I might get the Extreme 6 by then if I'm lucky too...

You'd have to buy one. The step-up program lets you trade in your current card for a more powerful one of your choosing; I'll be sending the graphics cards back to EVGA for them to give me a nice, fat discount on two 570s.
I see it as giving up two 460s for a discounted, buy-one-get-one-free 570

Yeah, I know, too easily dragged into these things - I can already play every game I have on full whack, including 16x AA and full AF without lag (tried & tested on Black Ops). Still, a great deal is a great deal.

Fair enough

EVGA don't run a step-up program in the UK. Do the old cards get sold on dirt cheap?

Re: EVGA

Do you mean "they don't run step-up from the UK" (ie: they run it in the country) or "they don't run it for the UK" (which they do, because I'm in the UK)?

As for selling them on, I wouldn't know - they're going overseas. I wouldn't be surprised if they tested them for faults then kept them for warranty replacements.

I meant either of those... last time I checked they didn't. I'll definitley look at this carefully next time I buy a new GPU oO
