Microsoft (specifically Office)
New installation of Windows, downloading and installing everything new as one should do, really.
Office 2010 was up next. I never got a disc for it because I used the upgrade program to update 2007 for free. Off to find the download... I opened up the e-mail that I got from Microsoft that details the "purchase" and download link - no joy; the link doesn't work. That's it. The one place where you can download a licensed Office application without buying it is inaccessible and there is no other freaking way to do it!!! Buy here, buy there, buy retail, buy, buy, buy - no "download the application because I already have it" button. No "download trial" seems to work either because it takes me to a shopping basket that's empty, telling me to add something to the basket. WHY THE HELL IS A FREE product in a SHOPPING basket???!!! Just give me the freaking download then I can F-off and install it. I went around and around, browsing tonnes of sites and ideas but I can't find a site anywhere from Microsoft, other than the one that's not working, saying "here, as you already bought the license, you can download the program." Seriously, what harm could it be to advertise a nice "download now" button that doesn't have a fat "BUY NOW" button screaming at you? I don't want to buy it - I already have the freaking license! I can't even download it from other sites because nobody bothers pirating the 64-bit version of Home & Student.

Re: Microsoft (specifically Office)
When you add to the basket, there is nowhere to put some kind of license key or redeem code that will then zero out your basket and continue the purchase/download for free?
Was there an expiry date on the download link maybe?

Re: Microsoft (specifically Office)
This is when I torrent it and just plug in my key rather than a crack...

Re: Microsoft (specifically Office)
CJ - Not that I'm aware of.
No expiry date for the link. The link still leads somewhere, it's just that site is broken (error in database). synthesis - At the bottom of that post I mentioned that I can't download that version.

Re: Microsoft (specifically Office)
What about D/Ling the trial version? Normally after the 30 days they prompt you to buy it, so i guess you would just enter your key and unlock to the full version?

Re: Microsoft (specifically Office)
I had stated in my first post, second paragraph that I couldn't download the trial - it kept taking me to an empty shopping basket.
I checked today and the site is back up and working. Good find though, hobo.

Re: Microsoft (specifically Office)
I had to ring up to activate, went through the process, entered the ID and so forth...
"For businesses, press 1. For Professional, press 2. For Home & Student, press 3" 3 "On how many computers is this software installed?" 2 "I'm sorry but the number of installations exceeds 3. Goodbye." Is there a way to talk to a representative?

Re: Microsoft (specifically Office)
I ran into the same thing trying to activate a family pack of Win7.....
"How many computers has this been installed on?" "3" This version only allows for one installation....... Goodbye....... click!" IT'S A DAMNED FAMILY PACK!!!! I read somewhere that the best way to get a representative is to not answer any of the automated questions...... Or lie and just say "1" as one is all the automated system can handle.

Re: Microsoft (specifically Office)
Actually, just lie. I've gotten about 18 uses out of my copy of XP by calling them and saying my hard drive was wiped, can I get another key.
Of course, that isn't that kosher...but it's not like robbing the poor. It's Microsoft. Live reps are actually pretty helpful and understanding. |

Re: Microsoft (specifically Office)
I ended up having to call the volume license activation number.... which I found on a well hidden microsoft web page and talked to a very nice fellow with a strong Indian accent. But it did get this system activated........ Here's to hoping it stays that way, and so do the other two. What a hassle.
