Thumbs Down! Alienware

I am writing this little message in hopes that it will prevent some poor sucker like me from making the stupid move of buying an Alienware computer.

Dont get me wrong. They use the best parts and if all goes well then you can say you got just as good of a computer as the Dell you were looking at for 3 times the cost of course.

But if things go wrong..... well lets just say their technical support and customer service are in India and I don't know about you all but I dont speak Pungibi or any other dialect of Hindi so I had a bit of a problem with communication.

To explain my situation, I got this huge paperweight as a birthday gift for my husband in 2002. I also got the three year warrentee. I suppose that was good because in March 2004, the parts started dying. By May 2004, everything except the hard drive and the sound card had bellied up.

Now I know this isnt Alienware's fault. And I would be writting a rave review right now if they had fixed it. But as I mentioned it is a paper weight that got to go to Florida for two months and came back with parts loose and the hard drive stuck on the sound card. Hmmm I wonder if those will work.

Oh! I forgot to mention. I started out with a paper weight that had 1GB of RAM and now it doesnt......... but Alienware wont return our calls.....

So save your money and your headache go with a computer that you build or if you dont want to do that, go with a computer that has a local office.

alienware was good....WAS. Those were the days before Best Buy bought them. Now, they're a crap-tastic company...i dont understand what people see in them. computers dont preform better because they 'are an alienware'...computers are only the sum of their parts.

sorry to hear about the unfortunate events though, maybe there is something we can help with?

Welcome to Driverheaven, Sorry to hear about the massive mess hate to see people having troubles with any form of computer no matter what brand. IT SHOULD WORK..

How the hardrive got merged with a sound card sounds like a case of sloppy building and terrible transit.... i'd suggest you send it back with a pretty tasteful note INSIDE the case explaining your position with the matter at hand and how you will raise hell ( ) IF they do not concide with what the warranty contract states (3 years you mentioned) and how a computer should have NEVER made it to anyones doorstep like it did for you.

I myself really don't let down in any situation that refers to warranty... i read the contracts well before i sign.. IF i ever come across anything i don't agree with, i take it to the manager and see if i and him can make an agreement, as soon as the contract is written, and i sign, and anything that falls in line with the contract happens and they don't want to do anything about it.... i get on there bad side, and with a contract.... the law starts to wear on them as well...

I don't think Hawgshead has had many problems... they did forget to put thermal grease on the processor... but made up for it...

I think you just had a lil bad luck

Good luck in the future tho

It's very strange, but seriously, people are better off building the same kind of computers part per part...

And I'm starting to see many more brands who start to 'abuse' people by selling products which don't meet up quality expectations we should have and which try to screw us by playing that lil 'cat & mouse'-game when you got problems.

I bought a brand name computer ONCE. And only once. It was a Compaq, and it was great at the time (I knew nothing about pc's and it ran the newly released Quake 1 amazingly). After having a hard time upgrading the thing, and dealing with all of the un-user-friendly proprietary BS that came along with it, I built my own. I'll never pay anyone to build me a computer again.

Well, I'm A+ certified and all that jazz now, so there'd really be no point in that

some builders are ok...not everyone can/wants to build their own. but the thing is, you should never even consider alienware as a choice. they will just overcharge rediculously for a middle of the road computer.

if you need it built for you, try ibuypower.com they've had alot of success and many of my friends are very happy with their builds

BestBuy DOES NOT own Alienware!Alienware's 2 principal stockholders live in Miami Fl.It is a privite company.Alienware's tech. support is in the USA & in Central America. All I can say is I have owned 3 of them and have had nothing but GREAT experinces with Alienware. My latest upgrade was with a P-4EE proc.Someone forgot to apply thermal greese.Hey,were all human, right??They replaced it.NO questions asked. They paid for FedEx 2 day shipping both ways. And also comped me 1 gig of DDR2 to boot. And as for them being a "middle of the road" computer company.opionions are like buttholes,we all have one.

no, i didnt say that they were "middle of the road computers". what i said was that they charge through the roof for a middle of the road computer.

a computer is no better than the sum of its parts, no matter what the name stamped on it.

I'm not sure why you guys are picking on alienware. Falcon NW, Voodoo, they all are outragously priced. I must say though, at least FNW and Voodoo arn't ugly as sin. Quite the opposite in fact.
