Hey all,
Sorry I've been absent the last week or so. I started a new class in school and I've been busy with that (information security.) Here's a link to my website of some Far Cry 2 benchmarks. Settings used are at the top of the page. Far Cry® 2 Benchmark Report Cheers, Charlie |

Re: Alienware M11x Notebook Review @ HH
I saw some vids on youtube with people running SC2 beta just fine.
And btw the m11x seems to be the most popular model du jour. |

Re: Alienware M11x Notebook Review @ HH
Hey there!
Like a fair amount of other new users to this site, I just had to sign up myself to tell you guys that this was definitely the best review of any product I have ever read. It was comprehensive, gave exact information and was what we all needed to see and hear. I tip my hat to you! I really, really do. I have one question about this system, though; I have read throughout the pages of this discussion and seen that if you are only really going to be gaming and/or web-browsing on this thing, that 4GB of RAM is a viable option. That is mostly what I would be doing, along with working with Excel spreadsheets for work and Word documents as well... but because this system gets shipped with the 64-bit operating system software, would it be better to get the 8GB RAM instead? I don't do a massive amount of Photoshopping or any thing, but I HAVE done that sort of thing before and would like to futureproof my purchase if I were to get this laptop. I am considering the M15x as well, but I don't think I want to spend that much on some thing and that it probably weighs too much for my preference anyway. So essentially, what I am asking is that should I get the 8GB RAM because of the 64-bit OS (for it will most definitely utilise it if it is there whereas the 32-bit counterpart can only use the 4GB RAM anyway (or so I heard)) or should I save some money and stick with the 4GB RAM because I may not need it? Thanks again, I have now fallen in love with this website and it's community. .

If saving money is important enough, then get the 4GB version. There is no reason to get 8GB now. If in a couple of years you need 8GB, chances are the laptop will be obsolete enough to have to buy a new laptop anyway.
Save your money.

Re: Alienware M11x Notebook Review @ HH
Hello!
I just joined up to ask a question about this machine. I couldn't find the answer and I apologize if I missed it. I just ordered it from Dell, and I was curious about the SSD drive vs the basic 7200 RPM. I'm a casual gamer (some WoW, mostly RPG's) and I basically bought this machine because I was looking for a netbook "type" with some balls. Should I go back and get the SSD? What benefit will it get me? |

Re: Alienware M11x Notebook Review @ HH
Performance wise you should be just fine with a 7200 drive. Battery wise, some people say SSDs are better for it, others say it is the same. Either way, the battery wise change will be too small to matter.
What matters I guess in your case is if you want to move the laptop while it is operational. For example if you are in a bus and want to play a game while you travel in it, or in a car/taxi, etc. In that case the SSD will provide safety for your data and it should be ok with any sudden movements.

The SSD will also give you faster boot times and generally snappier OS performance... not sure if thats worth the extra money for your purposes though. Everyone is different.

Re: Alienware M11x Notebook Review @ HH
Hello!
Just wanted to write back and thank you for your input. I decided not to upgrade to the SSD. Just got it today, and wanted to give a quick review. I love it. It's slick, looks great. Weight isn't bad at all. It fits comfortably in my "murse" and the extra few pounds are hardly noticable. The machine is extremely well built, and I don't fear taking it around with me. (some of the netbooks I've played with feel like they would collapse in a strong breeze) Boots up really fast. This is my first experience with Windows 7. I'm not sure how much that helps matters, but still. Really fast. Came with Portal, played around with it and was extremely happy. I was looking for balls, and that's what I got. Even if you're not a gamer, This is a powerful system I bought the better chip, one upgrade on the drive, and 4GB of ram. A few cons: I'm no architect, but I feel that the screen size vs the casing could have been utilized better. They could have made the screen another half inch bigger IMO. Some of the screen size is replaced by an obnoxious "ALIENWARE" trademark right under the screen. I had to turn this off as it was invasive and annoying. I know, minor complaint. Only thing I would have changed had I done this over again is go with the grey casing as opposed to the black. Thanks again for your input! Last edited by Rockpaste; Apr 20, 2010 at 11:26 PM. Re: Alienware M11x Notebook Review @ HH
Would be interested to hear from anyone who has picked up (or seen a review) of a M11x after the refresh with a i5 and Optimus. I'm virtually guaranteed to get one with the i5, but battery life is primary concern (its an ultraportable afterall) and I'd like to know if the i5 and optimus make a substantial difference either way.
Thanks! |

Re: Alienware M11x Notebook Review @ HH
I don't own either, but I'm pretty sure I'll be picking up the m11x up soon. Seems to me that the main reason to get a m11x over the asus is because you want an ultraportable system. I understand the asus is a 15in system and has comprable specs while being less expensive. So if you dont care about portability and battery life, I would think the asus is a better choice. If you are looking for pound for pound computing (like me), then the m11x is probably the way you should go.

It's such a great system. I wish I could afford one. It's just perfect.
