Palit GeForce GTX 680 JetStream Review @ HH

Palit GeForce GTX 680 JetStream Edition Graphics Card Review

The Palit GTX 680 JetStream is a factory overclocked 3 slot, triple fan cooled card which aims to show the competition how a GTX 680 should be done. We will be putting it through a selection of real world gaming tests including Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim as well as overclocking it to the limit...

Re: Palit GeForce GTX 680 JetStream Review @ HH

Nice overclocking results - nearly 4000 in 3DMark from a single air-cooled, unmodified card finally puts the lid on the "7970 is the fastest card when overclocked" arguments.

I think there may be a labeling issue in the bottom graph of page 14, btw.

Re: Palit GeForce GTX 680 JetStream Review @ HH

A very good review article but there were no real comparisons on noise output levels.

Palit are claiming: "the noise level is 9dB quieter"

To be fair, the article did include a yourtube video showing the cooler in action from 1ft away but my speakers don't have a 'reality' setting so its hard to tell exactly how loud we're talking about here.

Any additional info would be very much appreciated...

Thnx.

Its a quieter card but to be honest the reference model is a very quiet card itself so I wouldn't concern yourself on the noise front.

Regarding noise in reviews we put the videos in to show the tone of the fan, not how loud it is. Noise level, either recorded or taken with a dB meter is pretty worthless as your conditions are going to be different... how thick is your case, where is it positioned, what else is running in there? Everything makes a difference in that scenario, what we want to show is whether the fan is particularly annoying/intrusive. The Palit isn't.

Thanks for the confirmation.
I just ordered two of the 4Gb versions of these cards

The reference card is very quiet for a modern high-end graphics card, which makes it really quite intrusive imo. I have an HD6850 (as you know, thanks :P) and reviews I read with (note: decibels are a logarithmic unit) or without noise measurement equipment put it significantly quieter both at idle or load than most current graphics cards, including the GTX680. Even at idle, it's the noisiest component in my system.

While it's not unacceptably loud, given my previous experience using a 9800GTX+ with a 700RPM triple-slot cooler (totally inaudible), I do think there's something to be said for using better coolers to further lower noise levels on already relatively quiet reference cards. Then again, if you're using a many-fan, top-vented "gaming case", you're probably not going to notice much difference I suppose.

Re: Palit GeForce GTX 680 JetStream Review @ HH

Thanks for this great review. About OC thing, If I overclock this card (1300 MHz core,1800MHz Mem) do I need to be careful, these are usable values ? Load temps still will be safe ? I'm so curious how much load temps will go up (after overclock ) on this 680gtx jetstream.

BTW-
My last card 8800Ultra (stock speed) was reaching 90

As with any computer part, this varies hugely from one chip to the next. The best overclocks are achieved with hand picked samples, and really when you buy off the shelf, it's luck of the draw. Some parts are on average better than others, and it seems that the GTX680 is a solid overclocker, but there is that tiny chance that yours won't overclock at all.

As for 1300MHZ, you might see that occasionally with the dynamic overclocking if you increase the TDP limit, but as a "base" or "boost" figure, it's extremely ambitious. Load temps would in theory remain fairly stable, as the fan would just turn faster (and louder) to keep the card within design limits. Until you exceed the cooler's capabilities, that is.

Re: Palit GeForce GTX 680 JetStream Review @ HH

blibbax- You was right about temp. part :) I found review (but I dont know if it will be ok to post direct link here?) of reference gtx680 OC. 82░ at full load, only 3░ higher :). If reference gtx680 reached 1300MHz (propably boost) 7128 MHz (memory) without any problems so this Jetstream ver. should not give me any problems at all I supose :), thats why I want to buy triple fan cooled card... I mean after OC 680gtx you get 10fps more in dx11 games like crysis 2 and Battlefield 3, after that even gtx590 is slower :D

Re: Palit GeForce GTX 680 JetStream Review @ HH

If you can afford it I'd recommend holding off for a week when the 4GB version is released. If you're going to be playing games like Battlefield 3 or running multiple screens the VRAM will do you justice.
In case anyone points it out, there's only one (or two?) settings that really eat into your VRAM.

Takaharu- 4GB is overkill... for my needs . I'm not a big fan of multiple screens setups and FXAA dont use VRAM as much as MSAA

If you play one one screen without MSAA, what on earth do you want a GTX680 for?

DX11 titles have problems at 1080p and I dont look at benchmarks. In reality even dx9/10 games like crysis1/warhead arent so smooth at 1080p on 580gtx. Also I want to use that card for at least 2 years, so every extra power is needed.

As for current performance, you must have very demanding taste in games. HH saw perfectly passable FPS with the GTX580 on launch drivers in on of the games you mention at 1920*1200: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/review...s-warhead.html. Is it possible that another part of your system is causing this lack of smoothness?

If it turns out you do "need" the upgrade now, fair enough. If, however, you find that actually you just want it for futureproofing, remember that it is never optimal to buy hardware before you need it. It'll always get cheaper while you wait. That said, I suppose there's something to be said for electricity bills in this case, and you'd probably do well to calculate the size of the saving.

blibbax- I dont own 580gtx, I looked at "eurogamer" artice about 680gtx vs 580gtx, where you can see real gameplay on that cards (gameplays are recorded at 60fps). In C.Warhead, 580gtx struggles and even its replacement 680 rarely maintains a high frame-rate. I need to upgrade now because my card died lately, 680gtx clearly owns 580gtx and has fxaa.. so why not :D

This will almost certainly be with high levels of AA. If you don't care about MSAA as you say, it's irrelevant. Remember that Crysis is not representative of other games - it scales far more poorly into higher resolutions and AA levels than almost any other game.

I hadn't realised that you didn't own a 580. The 680 is definitely the card to go for in the super-high-end atm.

Also, from the Nvidia Beta driver release notes: "FXAA is supported on all GeForce 8-series and later GPUs."

AW: Palit GeForce GTX 680 JetStream Review @ HH

Hi

Did you dumped the bios oft the GTX 680 Jetstream?

Bought the 4gb jetstream today and bios is faulty

Only 1006 core clock, only 133% powertarget

Probably this is not the same bios as the press versions had

You are my last chance!
