OCZ Vector SSD Review

"Earlier this year we saw OCZ release the Vertex 4 and Agility 4 SSDs, a mix of Marvel and Indilinx inside they offered some impressive performance along with OCZs decent software suite and excellent support. Today sees the first product to market which combines the Indilinx and PLX teams knowhow. The Vector series of SSDs is, other than NAND flash, a 100% in house design and we will be putting it up against the best drives currently available from Samsung, Intel and OCZ themselves."

These things are getting harder and harder to stay away from.

I feel like really, only two things matter for an SSD for a regular user. Light workload reads, and reliability.

Reliability is kind of suspect with an OCZ product, and as for light workload reads, well obviously they're plentiful, but it's the one area where OCZ's controllers are nonetheless consistently outperformed by the competition:

Theoretical top speed, and large file transfers don't exactly translate well to the average consumer's usage.

Cheap controllers, shoddy manufacturing, and lackluster quality control si what keeps OCZ from ever becoming a respectable brand.

On a side note, at our local computer retail store, the brand of SSDs that sees the highest amount of refunds and exchanges are OCZs.
